A. Jaegers 6" f/10 objective new
      #5079950 - 02/19/12 11:05 AM Attachment (164 downloads)

Hello all!!!

I acquired another Jaegers item! Now I have 2 of them. The 6 inch f/5 RFT and this 6" f/10.

This one I bought is a 6" inch f/10 home made refractor telescope. It appears to be in a pretty nice condition. I am going to restore this to full beauty and retrofit the focuser end of it with a Astro Physics focuser and flange.

Right now, I just took the thing apart. Here is the objective end. It's dusty but that's ok because I will take it apart to clean. I have done this many times before so I am very familiar with objective cleaning.

The aluminum tube. This tube's interior has home made baffles made from plywood. I will keep this just the way it is. I'll just have the interior freshened up with a brand new coat of flat black paint. The exterior has blisters and scratches. This will be sanded down and re painted with a super nice glass white by a friend of mine (hopefully) who does this stuff professionally. There are screw holes there filled with screws which I will remove and possibly use with a set of Jaegers finder brackets that I have owned since the 70's! It'd be so cool to add a guide telescope on this, huh?

I also have a set of brackets to fit the OTA. I'll just re paint them and use them on a Losmandy rail.

Know what these are? Nope not Unitron! But I modeled the 4 inch Unitron legs... I made them a few years ago for my Losmandy G11. These legs are of solid oak and 5-1/2 feet long. They should be just right in height for this refractor when mounted on this equatorial mount. I really cannot wait to use this setup especially when I attend the local star party called "B.E.O.T.S." which is short for "BuckEye On The Sky" star party in Lodi, Ohio, hosted by the owners of "Backyard Observatories" Scott and Diane Horstman.

Thanks Clint! I looked through these lens when I was at Scott's party. He had this baby mounted on a massive Meade LXD750 mount set up on the pier in his 10 foot Ashdome observatory in the back yard. What a rock sold setup that was too! It gave excellent star test with perfect diffraction rings. Jupiter was awesome with this scope. The only thing was that there was a little CR but was killed via the minus violet filter he had mounted. So I know for a fact that I got a good specimen!

Lenny, I'm glad you bought that thing and saved me alot of spousal stress. I really, really wanted that scope. Even more so after reading your experience with the lens. If it had stayed up one more day it would of came east. Congrats, it really looks nice and I know you will do a great job on her. Looking forward to your post on it. Keep me in mind, maybe someday?
