Does anyone know how much power a losmandy G11 G1 mount actually uses while tracking and slewing? Tying to sum up all my power requirments in the field before I buy my next battery. Thanks...John

When I setup my Astro Trailer I included an amp meter to see what my big draws were. The G11 mount when slewing only uses .9 amps max. Normally when just tracking it uses .2 amps. Much lower than I expected.
My biggest draw is the laptop which pulls 5 amps when charging the laptop battery.

The reason the manual states 3 amps is you can have both motors active when slewing and while each motor draws about .9 amps that is while running. At startup each motor can draw 1.5 to 2.5 amps. The other problem is the older motors can get hot and draw 3 to 5 amps (usually the Dec and that is why Losmandy now provides high tork motors).
An AC power supply should be in the 5 amp to 10 amp range to be safe and you should use 3 amp draw to figure the DC run hours (both @ 13.6 volts). The GII really works best at about 18 volts under load.

FWIW, I had a G11 from the early 90s and the most I could get it to draw with various simultaneous RA and Dec slewing was 0.7A at 12V. It'd probably draw proportionately more at higher V.
I don't think the stepper motor temperature affects current draw in any significant way.
