I used to own a 90RA and it was one of my favorite scopes! Easy to use, no hassling with wires, batteries or connections. Just used the small controls and I was good to go. The optics are very nice too. I eventually ended selling to fund a 125. I actually ended up with 3 of them, all lemons. So I finally settled with a 105 and just had it Supercharged. The ETX is a great line and I'm very happy with mine. No doubt both you and your son are gonna enjoy the 90 a lot! Also, if you think the 90 is loud, you ought to hear a 125. Now that thing is loud. I'm glad you got it up and running, clear skies to yall.
