Skywatcher EQ 8

Well we needed a topic on the upcoming EQ 8 mount with its 50 Kilograms capacity...

Discuss from one of the two following items;

(A) The mount will easily outpace all other mounts in the world at a tiny fraction of their cost with PEC that even NASA could only dream of acheiving, say goodbye to Losmandy and almost anyone else who gets in the way.

(B) it will be vastly overrated and lets face it the Chinese cant do quality. Please feel free to make extravagant claims about how your Vixen GP with home made mods could outperform it anyway.

Well., I know its likely to be futile, but isn't it best (meaningful, even?) to have "the discussion" after the mount is released to the public, when real-world, practical feedback is available?

Indeed the amateur-astronomer world is anticipating the release of this mount... it's capacity of 50 kilograms might make it a favorite for many... depending on the price!
I'm in close contact with several dealers and will reply as soon as details are official...

You forgot "c"...

(C) It will be praised and/or condemned to the fires of perdition by people whose only experience with it is that they done seen the picture.

Good point There should also probably be one for something else but I am far too diplomatic to say THAT on this board

Bintel Australia has just listed it on their website for just under $4,500 (Aus) as a pre-order price........way too much!!!........ and, : it looks lousy in black.

The prototype EQ7 on Youtube looked a lot better made and it was in ''white''.

Black is the new white.....peresonally I would only consider it if its in the right shade of lilac

Black, white, lilac or whatever ... what really matters is the amount of green.

And for a mount in the 50kg/CGEPro class $4500 AUS doesn't sound like too much green to me.

I'd say the 50kg load capacity is science fiction. For that matter the whole mount is due to ''go in to production late 2012, and released in March 2013''................yeah, right

50kg load capacity? ... perhaps, but I guess we'll only really know when folks finally get these mounts in operation. Synta's track record of living up to specifications is actually quite good. If the mount is indeed based on similar structure and components as the CGEPro then they at least have a good shot at it.

A target release of spring 2013? ... well they've been talking about this mount since late 2011 and a production run in late 2012 and release in March 2013 doesn't sound like a ridiculous time line to me.

Lets just hope that Synta doesn't take any negative lessons from Meade's recent monumentally bad product introductions.

I was told I may get a chance to see one of these as early as later this week or next week and also was told the load capacity is what's stated. If I see it during a visit to the local shop i'll let folks know that it truly exist in the flesh.

Regarding your last point.....I think they don't want it out there in the field till it been tested for any surprise glitches. Learning this from the other makers trials and tribulations with its own product release.

Any insights on the chance that the "production" model will become available this summer?
