Well Mr Downs
Looking at your signature, you sure have gone through some equipment! What was your favorite PS looking at that photo of your Antares, that looks like my Dads house in the background! He lives in Homosassa, Fl.

Shawn,
Thats always a tough question but the Meade 1266 RG was probably my most favorite overall. It was a true classic that performed splendidly and had a real 'Wow' look about it.At that time I kept it in a 10x14 roll off. That's not your Dad's house as I'm not in Homosassa but truth be told lots of areas in southern Florida look very much alike

Just curious, did you put a bunch of lead sinkers inside your Antares 4" f/15 tube? Judging by the counterweight collection you have on the G8 mount, you must have. (I have the same scope/mount setup and it does not need near that much weight, the 7 lb. counterweight will do.)

Barry,
Good catch. I probably put it on just for the pic at that moment. I also was using a meade 10" sct at the time and that looks more like the counterweight arrangement for the meade.

... definitely gotta get me some black rings now! What a piece of precision craftsmanship. The new FT finderscope bracket is really nice too.

Nice! I used to have a FS102 and a FS128 and really liked them both.

BTW, where's the famous Takahashi manhole cover?

Very, very nice! Especially with the Feather Touch focuser. Got some major coin tied up there.

Thanks Doug. That is a lightweight aluminum TOA130 lid painted matching Satin black. The lead manhole cover and original green 4" Tak focuser are stashed away for safekeeping.

Actually this focuser cost the same as a 21 Ethos, that's not too bad! Just got the focuser upgrade a few days ago and installed it today. This setup with the 4.5" drawtube gives me an extra 1" backfocus and another .75" outfocus compared to the stock focuser with 2.75" drawtube. Another thing I like is the entire focuser rotates including the finderscope. Fell in love with this focuser when I had a TEC140.

Thanks Joe. Actually the white rings came with the scope, they were a great match with the Tak green but I do prefer black. I've already ordered a black pair for this new setup to give it a more "traditional refractor" badass look, that's also why I painted that spare objective cover black. I want the blue FS trim to stand out and otherwise the scheme is classic white/black. Oh except for the yellow Tak warning label of course!

I could always switch back to the traditional pastel Tak lillypad green in less than ten minutes. But this new makeover reminds me of that George Thorogood song - "Bad to the Bone"!
