I use the Dew Not strips similar to your black strip there. That is exactly where I have mine mounted. You say you leave your strip on permanently? I do to except when there is any wind. I take it your heater works in that position. I ask because I haven't encountered any dew or frost conditions yet. I feed my (cheapest model) Kendrick heater controller 15V instead of 12V, and I leave it set on full all the time. I never see frost or dew on the lens. I never see any bad effects from the heater strip either. I'm glad you brought up dew heaters. I didn't notice until now my heater for my guidescope is not attached.
