Roger that. 20lbs. as you see it. That's about the same as the mount under my 80mm. It doesn't get much more grab'n'go. The scope is superb... excellent focuser and optics.

Thanks Andy. I'll start a new thread jst as soon as I get it out under the stars. My little cg-5 ain't goin' nowhere til I get another weight for it. This scope is really heavy. Built like a tank is an understatement.

They're both beautiful. I had forgotten about the existence of Unitron's compact refractor, until now. How does it perform compared to its conventional companion. I also wonder if the Japanese maker of the Unitrons is still in business?

Cheers,

Alan

Is that a 100 f/4.7? I don't see any f/4.7 scopes on the Istar website. She sure is a looker!

Yep. 150 R30. Can't wait to bring her outside. This thing is really sturdy. If it were any longer I would need another mount. Fit and finish is superb, and I like the powder coat paint. doesn't pick up finger prints. More details when I get my second counter weight and a clear night.

Wow! It's beautiful, Joe. Istar even produces 8" refractors, and for not much more. But given their greater focal lengths, you'd need a mount costing two to three times the refractor, at least. Still, they'd be marvels given Istar's reputation.
