The Celestron CG-4 mount is more than capable of handling my Takahashi FS-102, four-inch f/8 apochromat. With the addition of the sixteen-inch pier, the union is made all the more stable, so much so that I consider the pier almost indispensable in this particular configuration. The gyroscopic motions about the axes are nothing short of fluid and graceful, once balanced, and with vibrations barely discernible; in fact, an experience virtually indistinguishable from when the refractor was once matched to a Vixen Polaris GP-DX years ago.
I gambled, and won, in this, a happy union...
