I bought a used CG-5 mount and an Orion St80 was thrown in on the deal, so I thought I'd make a "First Scope Kit" for my grand daughter. I bought an empty case and made the foam insert from scraps from my Pelican cases. I added an erect image diagonal and some spare EPs (a 25,15,&10mm) and a 2x Barlow to make up the kit. The tube rings and finder are in a pocket on the outside of the case. Not a bad deal for a freebie scope and some spare parts.

Very nice. I bet you had to re-balance things after the new additions.

Yep. It's actually not even balanced in DEC in this pic. I think I'm going to have to get a longer dovetail plate because it probably still needs to move up in the rings at least an inch or two... which with the stock short plate is putting a lot of the OTA above the objective side ring.

It's a T-Mount Johnny, basically a T-Rex without encoders and modified with motors.

Tanveer Your 178 Astro Physics Planetary Cant beat the old Nasa Glass Triplets. Very Classic and rare scope you have.

As for me still working with the only 230mm f10 Nasa Glass Triplet Roland Ever made.. The Pearl... I have been working on and with her for over two years. Big problem with it is this once you have a telescope like this there is no going back.... The thing made finders out of all my other telescopes

The great Pearl...

BTW, mine's not the Super Planetary series but the non EDG/EDT StarFire series. I.e., it doesn't use one ED element but two short-flint elements. Visually, it has far lower color than the Nasa triplets (A-P claimed 5x in its ads and I tend to agree having owned both), which were f/12 in the Super Planetary version while this is an f/9.

Tanveer.

Yeah I have one of the boring white last versions of the AP Starfire 178's (1991) with six-radii air-spaced objective, AP 80mm Guide Scope on an AP 800 mount and have been suffering ever since!

I built this scope for a segment on the Craftsman Livelabs! Maker's series. The objective is a 60mm f12 Carton, the focuser is a brass unit from an antique Military optics assembly. The tripod is from a transit and the mount is a pipe mount.

Salut.
Maxx
