I like how you rigged your TAL-100RS with that finder scope. There's a couple of us in the states who use this scope, and I agree with you that these are superb. Mine continues to amaze me - TAL eyepieces are excellent, too.
Cheers, Mapk

"The unique TAL-125-5APO objective lens system comprises of three components, the first is a single biconvex lens, the second consists of a biconvex lens, biconcave lens and converging-meniscus lens, the third one consists of biconvex lens and biconcave lens. Two types of optical glass are used in the construction to provide superb corrections."
Am I reading this right? The TAL apo has 6 pieces of glass making up the optics...a sextuplet?!?!?

I have decided to downsize my Refractor to something a little more portable:
Here are the Old and the New
The big black Istar 6" F10 Achromat is giving way to the little white 120mm F7.5 Takahashi Super Apochromat

Matt,
That “little” Tak 120 will knock your socks off.
I’ve been sockless now for three years.

Found the answer to my question. It is an 1870's commercial mount, and a very good looking mount it is!!!!!!

I think if I don't get the call from AP on a 130GT, that TSA-120 is my next best dream scope!

Thanks guys, Since the arrival of the Takahashi 2 weeks ago, there have been no breaks in the rain or clouds with the exception of a 30 minute window where the Tak showed its true colours, or rather the lack of them. This is an excellent scope, in fact the previous owner only sold as he had just bought an AP 130 GT.
I have now sold the Istar but the old Gaunt Mount will stay with me and will carry my recently bought 1880 Berry & Mackay Refractor .

The TSA is probably the best reasonably priced "all around" scope currently, IMO. I still kick myself for not picking one up when they were first introduced. They were $3800!
Nice, gentle focal ratio, great color correction, very light, just enough aperture to serve as an only scope (just barely), great optics, great mechanicals, nice aesthetics, etc.
Regards,
Jim
