Berry & Mackay ( Aberdeen) 3" f15 This c1880 telescope had been previously painted, then stripped with possibly steelwool, then acid? washed, then waxed, the focuser was stiff to operate, the stand corroded.
I decided that I would use this scope regularly therefore it needed to be recommissioned. Although the surface finish is at the moment too "new" it was necessary to clean the scope to get her back into service. A large dent in to tube was straightened but all of many other little nicks and dents were preserved as testament to 133 years of use.
The brass will now be left untouched and uncoated to age in peace.
Only 'artificial ageing' that will be applied will be the contact of human hands ( which actually accelerates the tarnishing of brass without causing damage)

Thanks Mark, I was luck to able to buy it from a friend for a song!
I have replaced the eyepiece elements so that my tired eyes can use the scope.
It is amazingly sharp and shows very little false colour being f15.
The OTA / Focuser is actually made up of 36 separate components, all handmade.

My ES AR152 right after I got it and my CGE. No, the sling is not from trying to lift the scope  It's from hitting a deer on a motorcycle at 65mph

Thanks! The rig now has an 80mm guidescope on top, and I removed the compression ring and added a direct threading attachment to connect my filter wheel so I'm not concerned with it slipping out.
My collarbone was snapped in that picture, arm was fine. It's healed now, but I'll always have a lump there the two ends of the bone are overlapped. For a while there I needed help to get this thing outside, and a few times I stubbornly set it up myself when no one was around. Not a great patient I guess...

Haha... Lucky for me, my soon-to-be wife is very supportive of my telescope addiction. Markedly less so of my motorcycle one, though that has been waning as of late.

Never ground a achromat yet, tolerances too precise to hit those numbers for me.
I got the glass on sale from surplus shed. it tests pretty decently on a double pass test, not 1/10~ but better than 1/4~.

If you put that gray-green on a car...it would NEVER sell. Put it on the trim and accessories of a TAK scope...and it sets it off into a visual stunner!

Man I love all the 80mm WO refractors. Great bunch of scopes. Here is my GNG (Grab and Go) 80mm Fluorite on Top of one of my TAK imaging rigs. I have always been impressed with the mags this 80mm scope will hold, Great Scope they used to make.
