Saturn 15 March 2012
      #5125432 - 03/16/12 12:37 PM

Hi,

I took the opportunity to make an observation of Saturn yesterday morning. The report and sketch are posted here in the Sketching Forum.

Saturn's disk is already 5 arcseconds bigger than Mars will get this apparition. Good luck with your Saturn observations.

Nixe sketch and good of you to add the link. The activity in this particular forum can appear deceivingly quiet when in reality its rockn' in the sketching forum and certainly the imaging forum! Its too bad there werent some kind of bridge between the rooms to notify of the posts. Oh well.

As usual you did a nice job with the greys. Some of the best values are those that are the most subtle as they lend a luminosity not had through harsh contrasts. Great stuff. I look forward to seeibg Cassini again.. Finally!

Pete

Thanks, Pete. I'm glad it's so easy to jump between the forums--there's a lot going on in all of them.

Ed, excellent sketch of the ringed planet. Thanks for the view. I've yet to look at Saturn this year.

Michael,

Excellent sketch of Saturn. The C ring really stands out. I too have been using a #11 yellow filter on Saturn though I stacked it with a Baader MSG.

Thanks for posting. Dean

Rich, Dean, thanks! It won't be long until Saturn is transiting closer to prime time, although I don't know how high it will get this apparition for northern hemisphere observers--I need to check Curt's page.

Dean, I usually use a W11, W56, and W80A because the rings and globe can show more detail depending on what you're looking at. I've never used the MSG but I've heard good things about it.
