I forgot to add something about our return trip from Curlew Lake. We came back on a totally different route, following Hwy. 20 from Republic all the way over Washington Pass to Sedro Wooley then south on I-5. It turns out that that route is all of 13 miles longer than our outbound route (over Snoqualmie on I-90, Hwy. 97 over Swauk Pass, Hwy. 2 through Wenatchee to Wilbur, then north on Hwy. 21 to Republic.) Each is highly scenic in starkly different ways and well worth the trip. Returning against the flow of outbound Memorial Day weekenders was a piece of cake. I'd guesstimate opposing traffic outnumbered us by 50:1.

Looking at the weather for the upcoming transit - extended forecasts show clouds over the entire Pac NW. I checked as far south as Medford and east to Boise. The best forecast in the area is Friday Harbor, showing 0% cloud cover at 6 pm on Tuesday. Anacortes is also looking fairly good. Looks like instead of a lot of driving I'll be on a ferry???

I've been doing some checking, too. So far the best skies I've found are in the Goldendale/The Dalles area. We might be flat out hosed for the transit.

It appears a large weather system will be over the Pacific Northwest ranging from Canada to Northern California and from the coast to Boise and Spokane. I am packing up the truck with gear and some OAS friends and heading east looking for sucker holes and will probably end up in Goldendale. Lets hope for some holes. Good luck everyone!

It doesn't look good. I think I'll stay in town and take my chances. Good luck to everybody chasing the transit.

Tanveer.

PS. I'd been trying my newly constructed filter and caught this:

Sadly I think we're toast - even the San Juans look dicey. Good luck chasing sucker holes Cliff.

I bet we could all crowd into Steve's plane with our gear & circle around for a few hours ABOVE the cloud cover and he could make that bird feel like it was sitting on a down featherbed!

The more adventuresome could scale Mt Rainier & hope the summit breaks cloud cover.

Me: I'll enjoy the internet pictures, thank you. Unless Steve comes through...

Too bad I'm not certified for IFR (Instrument flight). Oh, and the plane is in annual right now so can't fly it.

I have a friend that I might just call - thanks for the idea!

Here I am testing my newly made sun shield yesterday. It's a shame it won't get put to use... :-(

I assume that Megrez must be set up in your front yard so the building to the left with the columns and low bushes must be your house.

I've searched the state again today and the best weather report I've found is a 40% chance of rain in Goldendale. I've already taken the day off work tomorrow so I'm heading East. I.m hoping to at least get some sucker holes from Mike's place.

Mike, if you'd like I can flag a post at the spot where we had the sani-can a couple years ago. Right on the dirt track above the observing field. Let me know.

Ray of hope! Just watched a forecast calling for clearing in the south sound by 5 pm. Olympia and west shows clearing on the compter models.

Jackie, that is my neighbors house! That little patch of grass is our shared lawn. I do love that maple tree which blocks the street light in summer.

Good luck guys.

I'm driving to Shelton, WA, where the models predict clearing.
It is clear there right now and has been for the past hour:

Actually, the CSC for Rob's place doesn't look bad either:

Rob, any plans for today?

Steve: where in Shelton are you headed? I've got my scope loaded in the car at work.

Tanveer.

Thanks Robert,
I have to head to work in a few minutes so I'm going to throw my bino's with the solar filters in the rig "just in case" there might be a clearing at my lunch at 18:00 but I'm not going to hold my breath!
