I'm quite fond of swift 831, (middle OTA). as my favorite color.

So, your scopes are all various shades of yellow?

I know Preston likes to paint his scopes flashy colors. In my mind, that takes it out of the classic class and makes it a hot rod. The classic 57 Chevy is turquoise and white, paint it candy apple red and it's no longer a classic, it's a classic hot rod even if the motor is stock.

Jon

I totally agree Jon! That's why you won't see any of my "hot rod" scopes at the CN Classic Scope display at NEAF!

..and for the record, all of my colored scopes are built from damaged or dented OTAs - no vintage scopes have been injured or sacrificed.

Gosh Preston, must you be so agreeable?

Classic stock or classic Rod...what's the difference but in ones own mind? I like your *Hot Rod* colors on your *classic* designed scopes(Long focus). Long focus is classic...no matter the color of the tube. IMO

In the dark, when my eyes are well adapted and everything except the stars appears in shades of black, white, or grey, only a pure white tube is bright against the night. This keeps me from clonking my head against a long tube by accident, or at least reduces the incidence. So, I prefer white.

The tube on the ATM refractor for the legacy 4" triplet from our club's founder will eventually become white. It's currently military green, having been cut from an old aluminum tent pole. I agree that restorations require the original color, so my C8 will remain orange, yet I am fine with hot rods and enjoy seeing the wild and often beautiful colors people choose. Even scopes that are used heavily at night often spend their days in our living rooms, so make 'em as pretty as possible!

As for the idea that a white tube cools more slowly, I appreciate the theory, but have my doubts in practice. The materials used and thermal mass of the tube would be far more important.
