Carol; off topic....but loved the sketching tutorials.Downloaded both to my puter.
How do you like your light bridge??? Before seeing Jasons 16 inch f/4.5 I was looking at the light bridge, but the press wood base put me off. Did you do a review of the light bridge???

Thanks, i'm glad you liked the tutorials - hopefully they'll encourage people to give sketching a try. No i didn't review the 16LB, but my groundboard and rockerbox were in pristeen condition till i made a mistake and ruined them. 'Seymour' (see-more ) has always been kept in an outside shed, and the wood remained in like-new condition despite the fluctuations in temperature and the awful humidity in the summer. He was on wheels and never came into contact with the ground though, which probably helped a lot. My mistake was to bring the base and rockerbox into the house last winter to install the Sky Commander DSCs. I should have done the installation outside, or wrapped the pieces in big garbage bags first - to protect them from the house's moisture until they warmed up. Here's the whole sad tale: So frustrated i could just cry..... TBH, the shim solution worked very well, and i used the original groundboard and rockerbox with the DSCs until the replacement was ready.
Are you still thinking about getting a Lightbridge?

No.....I took one look at Jasons "Elekta" and fell in love, hes asking the same price as the light bridge. Better wood, looks way light and way shorter ground board. Also 16" f/4.5 and if I remember correctly from a Meade starfinder? ( not positive )
Working on borrowing the money from my 401K currently.

Andy,
Elekta's wood is all Baltic Birch plywood sealed with 3 coats of oil based polyurethane. The truss system is the Moonlight focuser ball in socket style. The upper cage is flocked with Flockboard from Protostar. Oh yea, it has a protostar 3 vane spider and secondary. It is wired for dew heating.
The finderscope and dew controller unfortunately is not included (did not know if we discussed this or not). However, I have an extra 9x50 straight through finder you can have. The secondary just needs 12V to run.
The focuser is a Kineoptics Helical for precise control. I have had many hours of wonderful views out of my 16" scope. I have one too many scopes and my 12.5" is plenty for me. Plus, I really want to get back into some imaging.
I am already gathering ideas on how your 8" will turn out. I think you will like it when I am done. You will of course need to come up with a name for her

Yep, I didn't like the single ring design as it limited me to how I like to observe. Plus I wanted to keep things dark around the secondary. I think it made a bigger improvement.

Nope.. just frustration that I have yet to build her bookshelves like I have promised her. Part of the reason why I am allowed to get the garage turned into a woodshop (officially) is that she is hoping it motivates me to build things for her.
She is looking for a return on her investment..

I just walked out back behind the plant to have a smoke, and just stopped in my tracks at the view, the sun below the horizen throwing up yellow orange, blending into light blue, blending into ever deepening shades of blue.
The moon hanging above the trees, a hand full of stars just visible. Inspiring is all I can say.
No optics needed, just a pair of eyes and a love of the night sky, with maybe just a hint of poetry in my head.

One of my favorite poems:
"When I heard the learn’d astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them, When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick, Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself, In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time, Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars."
Walt Whitman

You'd have to ask him that.
We must be doing something right, though - our 40th anniversary's coming up soon. Just think of it - all those years together, and we've only had one fight. (And the doggone thing's still going on. )

There's magic in the air that time of night. No matter how many paintings or photographs i've seen, none of them holds a candle to what Mother Nature looks like when she's struttin' her stuff.
