Andy, Congratulations on your new beautiful scope! With it goes a memory that you are preserving; that makes it even more special!

No one deserves such a nice scope more than you, so enjoy those beautiful night skies even more!

Off to Jason house in 2 hours to adopt Elekta.... I'm so jacked sleep isn't possible, lol.

Did I miss something? Elekta?

Carol,

Elekta was my 16" telescope I built.

Jason

Duh! ,

Here I was thinking a fuzzy four-legged critter! Jason, that's a beautiful scope, and it couldn't be going into more deserving, caring hands than Andy!

This scope is taller than I had thought ,lol.....so some sort of like 6 inch riser is in order when the scope is straight up, other wise its feet firmly one the ground.

Congratulations Andy!!!
She sure is sweet - what's on your 'gotta see' list?

Just an idea - would you be able to get a few small (18"x18") remnants of 2" thick foam insulation?
They make great risers to stand on - just stack as many as you need.

Thats one idea Carol.....yeah , ever see contact ? where shes a young girl? well I need to take her dads advice ,small movement Andy, small movement.I decided to try to collimate, strictly by eye, since I do not have any collimating toos currently, accept the 1.25 inch Orion Lazer collimator. And before I knew it ,it was so far off I couldnt beleive it, a friend dropped over ot see Elekta, he and his wife just gawked at it, lol, but they helped by moving the collimating knobs until it was almost perfect.

Yeppers i've got the movie and the book too, Andy - as usual the book's better, but the movie takes less time.

Yeah, the insulation works pretty good - and it keeps your tootsies warmer in the winter, too. My eye is 5' above ground level, but the eyepiece (at zenith) is 6'2" because Seymour's on wheels. For zenith work, the first step of a ladder gives me a perfect height. The observing chair handles the lower eyepiece heights pretty well, but there's a certain range that's too high for the chair and too low for the ladder. That's when i use the insulation slabs.

Glad you got Elekta's collimation straightened out - how does the weather look?

clouds and rain for since she got home, figure crummy weather for every inch of aperture, it'll be a while ,lol.
But that's ok, cuz I'm waiting on a new ES 24mm 82 degree ep to arrive for Elekta.

Andy, here's what I built for my 16". Very easy & quick to build, I used some left-over carpet to cover it. Works great for me in the observatory.

Thanks Rob.....shes definately well built, I am going to attempt to make my own battery box to plug the dew zapper cables into. Then make or find some dew zappers for the telrad, ep, and finder.Got all the time in the world, I doubt Ill drag her far afield in the winter, so Im guessing Ive got till late spring before I seriously head to dark, dew filled skys.
I do want to see what shell do the hercules cluster though, lol.

Thanks Di......you know how it is.......I looked around and all the beautiful lady's here had bigger scopes than me, lol

Seriously though I'm dieing to view Jupiter in this scope, the view through the Leviathon, of Jupiter, has been burned in my brain ever since the last time I looked through it.
Unfortunately 12 inch f/8 caves go for like a fortune now.
This should, hopefully be close.

Hello Ohio...
is there an empty seat on this here Ohio bus?

Cleveland calling (Parma area) and wondering where or what you guys use in these winter/autumn months for replacing the big "star parties" ? Thanks for any suggestions (skipping Chiefland but planning WSP in February). It will be my 1st winter with the 12" and it kills me to see it sitting while Lake Erie sends all of her moisture over me/us
