You will find the best way to combat light pollution is with the IDAS LP2 filter with your Mallincam, I live in a near white zone and can only use the MCX with it in place. Without it, everything but the moon looks red after a few seconds of exposure. Pay attention to the white balance adjustments on the camera.

BTW, Rock is using a 16" telescope in a dome and with objects of interest carefully positioned above the orange light dome of Toronto, Canada. I do that too when I want to see something without the IDAS LP2 filter.

The MCX TEC cooler needs to be "OFF" for the cooler to be on full blast. Confusing yes, but that is what it is..

You need to have something like AmCap, or SharpCap to adjust the video output of the MCX and self learn how to tweak ALL of the camera and video controls - it takes time (experience) and patience (wag more bark less).

This is not a point and shoot camera, nor was it ever intended to shoot masterpieces for your wall, even tho the MCX is capable of making some excellent shots, its intent is for live visual enhancement.

The MCX under ever changing conditions can not be reduced to a set of numbers that you can copy from one place to the next - It just doesn't work.

Best advice ever given to me - Get the right light pollution filter for your area, learn the camera controls, and the software you "just have to have", surprise, "by using them", and hope all of the street and porch lights go out. Dark is always the best filter and our common goal is to simply "see" whats out there.

Agreed - observing conditions can be so variable even on a short timescale especially in suburbia that no one fixed setting will work for different objects at different directions or altitude in the sky. When you eyeball a faint fuzzy through an eyepiece there's nothing to do but hope. Video gives enhanced viewing but only IF you work those knobs
