Roger Tuthill Isostatic Tripod/mount for 8" SCT new
      #5191803 - 04/26/12 02:17 PM Attachment (168 downloads)

I recently purchased a very nice Celestron Ultima which was originally purchased from Roger Tuthill and came with an extremely sturdy tripod/mount combo (Isostatic) created and manufactured by Roger Tuthill. I am very new to this sport (this extreme tripod escalates this activity from hobby!) And was hoping someone could help me to develop a good system for Polar aligning my scope using this set up. Mounting the Scope is no problem as the mount is hinged and I am able to put the center rod in the scope and just drop into the opening. I appreciate any advise. cheers

Roger offered many nice accessories for the C8, one being the isostatic mount that you mentioned. He also offered a polar spotting device which enabled one to align on the North Star. Do you have an optical finder looking device in the materials you bought? It would also have some hardware for mounting. I once owned a C8 but never purchased any of the Tuthill items.

I notice that the Tuthill above is EQ, but Stellarvue M150 Isostatic Mount is altaz.

So what exactly is an isostatic mount? I had to look up "isostatic", which apparently means "subjected to equal pressure from every side".

Thanks,
David

Just looked up the polar alignment scope you mentioned. Nope don't have one. Actually don't even have a true finderscope. Have bracket for one and an old Halleyscope that I was going to try out. I'll get a picture of the whole setup for you all tomorrow. I'll also keep an eye out for a use alignment scope. I think I'm going to need one.

Just to clarify in the ad #792918 there is a photo of the polar scope and instruction sheet that showes it on a isostatic mount.
The first picture shows it on a standard tripod
