Hi everybody, My Tak 22x60's just arrived. Can anyone help on a few issues?
1) They are tough to use above 60 degrees elevation - a lot of neck strain. How do the Pro's on this forum handle this? I was thinking of using a mirror platform - are these any good ($300+, I think!).
2) Jupiter looks oval from certain eye positions. On axis with my eyes dead center, it looks circular, but any moving around of my eyes causes it to get distorted. Also, I was kinda hoping to see banding, but no luck so far.
Best regards to all, Silvio.

You should easily see the equatoral bands on Jupiter at 22x.
Do you have any astigmatism that you are aware of? Could be the cause of oval views. But then, if so, you would see it oval all the time. ?????
Go to the Binocular forum "Best of" thread at the top and view the thread on Binocular Mounts. You will get info on at least a dozen different mounts that have already been written up here in this forum.

I agree that steadiness of view ( or rather lack of in this case) COULD be a factor here.
Tonight,in what appeared to be quite rarely clear conditions I lazily took out my 33 x 102 scope combo on the flimsy "toy" tripod set -up that I was using it on quite satisfactorily earlier in the day for a spot of "spotting".
Even at 33x ,with my astigmatism-correcting glasses on ,I could NOT resolve 4 stars in the trapezium in Orion , and was very dissapointed.
I only considered later that the cold stiff breeze was probably preventing the image from settling down sufficiently.
Another thing about sub - 3mm exit -pupils is that it makes it imperative ( and sometimes quite difficult) to get the eyes in the right place.
Also worthy of consideration is the problem our friend Daniel was having with getting his personal diopter settings just right.
And I also think it worth mentioning than ANY NEW binocular does take a little time to "get to know".
Good luck Silvio -- Kenny.
