Eclipse Animation Help new
      #5236244 - 05/23/12 06:57 PM

I have about 1000 jpeg frames from my image run Sunday and want to assemble these into an AVI time lapse video. Registax isn't working well for me, at least the settings I am trying...I think the problem is that the align-points disappear during the transit, then it gets lost. I have tried selecting points on the rim that never disappear but this doesn't work either. Suggestions?

Make a square which touches the solar limb. Position this over the sun's image in all the frames. Align on the square corners. Then go back and erase the squares ... if you add the graphics using the "nor" operator then adding the same graphic again using the same operator erases it.

I haven't tried this but there's no reason why it wouldn't work (apart from the time taken).

You could also try converting to a format that ninox understands e.g. BMP.

Thx for the suggestion Brian...I've thought about that but I have 1000 frames...that will take a lot of time...I'm trying ImagesPlus as well...seems to be working better but it also looses it around maximum...

You could assemble the avi first without alignment (with Vdub?), then use Castrator. It should center the image in the frame at which point, you'll be done.
good luck. Sounds like an ambitious project.
Tim

There is a similar recent thread on which I have also reported my own problems -- but I can confirm that every app that I have tried gets confused when a significant part of the Sun is gone

As for Registax, even though I wasn't totally successful, what seemed to work the best for me was a combination of 'max' separation, and putting the alignment points on the circumference of the Sun that were not obstructed during the eclipse i.e. so that the alignment points never get interrupted.

Here is a link to the video as is...I'll give Castrator a try...if I can find it! I'll have to weed through the bovine castration links first...lol

Thx Tim...I did try Castrator and it almost worked...but lost it when the video gets close to max and then it sends the sun into a loop...then it lines back up again...close but no cigar. I may have to segment my vid files and try that....
