ALT/AZ Mount for C6R
      #5239800 - 05/25/12 09:53 PM

I'm looking for a alt/az mount that will hold a C6R but not break my wallet. To be more specific there are nights where I just want to take out my c6r to observe a planet and not deal with carrying out my cgem, battery and counter weights.

budget wise I can't go over 500.00. Am I better off perhaps going the zhumell z8 route based on the budget? I was considering the ES Twilight II, but is it truly to handling a c6r?

The Unistar from Universal Astronomics may work for you.

I use a Desert Sky Astro DSV-2 with both my Orion 120mm ST and my Celestron C6-A schmidt cass. Works well. They make a smaller one the DSV-1 and a new DSV-2 with digital setting circle option

I just checked out the Unistar Deluxe ($400) at Universal Astronomics a couple of days ago. It's rated for 30 lbs and can EASILY handle your C6. You would, however, need a tripod on which to attach the Unistar.

If you don't have a solid tripod, the Unistar Light plus a surveyor's tripod would work well, and would come in at about $430 combined.
