Hi, trying to move over to Nebulosity from BYE, but running into problems. I posted these questions at the Beginning Forum and got no answers. Appreciate some help...
1. I cannot seem to get Bridge (CS5) to preview FITs files. They say it works, but in version 3.0.1 FITS Liberator they have the same old 2009 plugin. Is this possible? I can preview CR2 files.
2. Also, cannot save both CR2 and FITs files in Nebulosity. I see the files are 4x bigger in FITs compared to CR2. I set this in the Nebulosity Prefs.
Any help appreciated.

There is an option under DSLR Save Location in Nebulosity preferences called Computer FITS & CR2 and that allows both formats to be saved.

I tried this and all I get is the FITs files in the folder I select in the preferences. The FITs files are 88MB and the CR2 files from Backyard EOS are 18MB.
There must be something I am missing, but am at a loss.

Are you using Nebulosity 2.x or 3.x?
88 meg FITS files... sounds like are capturing in RGB mode instead of RAW mode. This would also explain the lack of CR2 files ("RGB mode" = JPEG mode).
In Nebulosity's preferences check the "Acquisition mode" preference. You want that to be set to "RAW Acquisition". You do NOT want it to be set to either of the Recon (RGB/Square) options.

First off Nebulosity has a Preview function so you do not necessarily need to use Photoshop. I use Nebulosity's Preview function to sort my exposures and reject ones with bad tracking or cloud haze all the time. Nebulosity's Preview function is under the File menu.
Second thing to consider is that there is more then one method of storing data in a FITS file, it could be that the photoshop plugin does not support the method you have currently set in Nebulosity. In the Nebulosity preferences check the "Color file format" preference. There is a setting for the FITS method Maxim uses and one for the FITS method ImagesPlus uses. Whatever it is set to now try the other method and see if Photoshop can open that.

Thanks very much. You got the diagnosis right on the Acquisition mode.
Using 3.0. I understand the Preview mode. Where I live near San Francisco the fog can roll in and ruin a whole set of shots, which I would like to delete en mass. Bridge is great for that. Unfortunately, I tested both FITs formats and neither worked in Bridge. The CR2 files did show up as you predicted. Both FITs formats previewed as black and white checkerboards in FITS Liberator 3, whose plug-in I have installed. The plug-in, BTW, I note dates to October 2009.
