Where will you be to view the transit?
      #5244887 - 05/28/12 11:18 PM

I'll be at a park running an Outreach with our local club assuming it's sunny.

If it's cloudy locally I will be driving to wherever I can find clear skies, and that includes a possible ferry trip to the mainland if I have to. will have to make the call the night before though.

What exotic location will you be at!?

I haven't checked yet, but I HOPE I can see it down here in the Houston area. It has been clear skies here lately, hope it stays...
I'm ready, I have several scopes, refractors and reflectors, from 60mm to 10".
The one I plan on using will be my 60x700 30 year old refractor.

P.S.
I remember seeing that scope of yours on that backyard mount in other pictures, I gotta say, that set-up is really cool!

Unfortunately, I won't be anywhere exotic. However, for the transit, I will be working with a local school district's planetarium. I've been asked to participate in the event and provide equipment and commentary for the general public who come out for the transit. Basically, I'm setting up my scope and answering any questions that people may have. Looking forward to it!

I am observatory supervisor on the day of the transit and will be opening Hyde Memorial Observatory in Lincoln, Nebraska in the afternoon for the event. We will remain open until around sunset, as we did for the Mercury transit a number of years ago. If it is cloudy, we may just open for the on-line feeds, but probably not for the full transit. Clear skies to you.

I will be at Quabbin Hill overlooking Quabbin Reservoir in central MA. A local club in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and Recreation is running a public program for the transit. I will be setting up my 80mm scope with solar filter. Just hoping for clear skies.

The OKC Astronomy Club will be set up at Science Museum Oklahoma for a public viewing. Should have 15 or more scopes on hand.

I will be at the Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association/State University of New York at New Paltz event. Have been helping build solar filters for the 8" dobs and the Questars that they have. I will bring two 80mm scopes, one with Baasder solar film, the other a sun funnel.

I'll be on the beach,kinda-sorta, at LauderMilk Park in sunny
South West Florida. My astronomy club will be aiding an outreach
program hosted by the local high school.

I found a way to attend a concert and view the transit. I will most likely be on top of a parking structure in detroit. I figured this would get me the maximum time out possible at a high location that shouldn't be an issue for seeing the sun.

Home. Well, more precisely, in a field in the middle of our neighborhood, as my home's western tree-line will block the sunset view.

Plan to be home, set up on the south face of a hillside with a good view of at least the first hour or two.Swapping work hours with a non-astronomer to view.

Have 90mm refractor with commercial solar filter.

Hope its not cloudy.

Regret not being aware of 2004 transit .

I shared with co-workers about 30 minutes of the 2004 event from my then-employer's parking lot. I'll view this event from my driveway with neighbors.

At this time, cloudy weather not expected.

Planning to meet at a local park with our astronomy club HAS (Houston Astronomical Society) for the first time.

We’re taking the DOB (Orion XT8) and using the Orion 9.25 full aperture solar filter.

I don't have a high power wide field eyepiece, but I'm hoping a barlow on the Pentax 14mm XW will give some sun surface detail (wanted the 3.5mm Nagler but was out bid on eBay).

I think we should have a have a clear view of the horizon to 15 degrees (as is typical in our area) but clouds are my main concern.

I'll be out in my back yard projecting the image with my old "cannon fodder" 60mm Jason refractor. When the Sun gets too low, I'll move back out into the local cemetery.

We will hold a transit event here at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena, CA) for local schools. There will be indoor talks featuring planetary scientists and engineers who study Venus and the sun, or who work on solar system or transit missions. Then the students get time at solar telescopes. Plus quite a few JPlers should trek up the hill for a view. I had over 1100 employees look during the Transit of Mercury in 2006. Good transit to you all!

I do not know yet. I will probably head to a local beach to catch the transit.
