iOptron iEQ30 - 12 arc-sec p-p periodic error new

Now I've got your attention?

I'm subscribed to William Optics' Facebook, and one of their recent posts was "new setup for high quality imaging" with the 81mm and 102mm 5 element refractors "with iOptron IEQ 30 mount (excellent tracking around +- 6 sec.)"

Yes. I was considering that mount, recently, and waiting to see a few reports on it.

Only, where did you find the PEC spec?

On william optics facebook page. I presume they had measured it...

Wow... If the 12 arcsec p-p periodic error is the 'typical' value of this mount out of the box, ioptron is pushing the envelope.

12 arcsec p-p is in the +2.5K realm (vixen SXD)

Cheers,

Jose

If they get that on the 30, the 45 will be sweet! Can't wait for mine.

I have one iEQ30 even better than that.
The following picture is the raw curve:

Just judging from the reports on this site, it looks as if IOptron is building high quality products. There was another thread on here about a month ago stating they got PE on their iEQ45 down to 6 arcsec after PPEC and programming through PEMPro. Someone else on that same thread was claiming 4, getting close to atmospheric interference levels.

Is PEC enabled when measuring?

WOW... It was not obvious that PEC was not enable, cause the iEQ45 has a PE of at least twice this value.

So the iEQ30 tracks much better than the iEQ45. The original FB post of William Optics, said that the iEQ30 was more accurate than the ieq45, and it looks like it is.

I wonder how low you can get after PEC.

Cool!

Jose

The spec sheet on this mount says it has permanent pec.? What does this mean it ? It does not say permanent pec for the iEQ45.?

The spec sheet does not promise 12 arc-sec p-p for this mount. We don't know if this was a typical or an exceptionally good sample that was measured.

Permanent PEC means that the mount/HC will store the PE curves and play them back without retraining it after a power cycle.

Jose

At this price point it would be impossible for manufacturer to include a max PE in the specs. The 'cheapest' mount that includes a PE spec is the EM11.

So far there are 2 ieq30 that performs under 12 arcsec PEC. The William Optics sample and moligpy's

Let's wait for more data, but so far so good.

Cheers,

Jose

Hello all,

Have been using iEQ30 for almost an year. Only use it with AT65EDQ (FL 460mm), Orion 50mm guider, and DSLR. Got some reasonable photos and start curious about the performance.

I used PHD to measure PE last night. Follow the approach of: http://www.telescopejunkies.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4131 and here is the result with 40+min tracking.

Looks like my mount is not so lucky to be the 12-arcs-p-p one. Instead, it is more like 35-arcs-p-p. With PEC enable (simulated by PECPrep), it might get 15-arcs-p-p ...

Any other iEQ30 owners would like to show their results ?
Happy New Year to you all.

-Kai
