today the first 5 pc of the new Massimo Riccardi Designed SuperED doublet Apo's arrived

LZOS call it Semi-Apo, but here term of colorcorrection for an apo cannot be done with any doublet

our baffle system

the Apo in action at APM Backyard

we tested this new doublet under real night sky objects

- Stars at 250 power infocuse completly color free, no spurios of purple

- Moon, Moon's Limp, Moon's craters at 250 power completely colorfree, no spurios of purple

- Jupiter at 250 power completly colorfree

Wolfgang Rohr measured one for us, the result is better then original designed

so infocuse it is a real colorfree Apochromat

SD = Super ED Glas, it use OK-4 and Ok-4 is SuperED Glas, thats why

Is the contrast of this SD-APO noticeably better than TMB152 triplet APO?

Which one do you prefer, let alone the price?

Well Markus, I got a 152/F8 triplet the other day so just send me a sample of the new doublet and I'll make the comparison for you.

My triplet is a seriously good scope, mechanically and optically. Right up there with the 130/9 I used to own. I was concerned about spherochromatism but that concern went away in about 3 seconds while doing the star test...and I'm slow. My only carp is that I wish the tube was 25-30mm shorter so that I can reach focus with my Denks with the power switch attached without the OCS in the optical path. I can get to focus without the power switch but that limits my high power viewing to ~150X.

Markus is to be congratulated for bringing this and the Chinese sourced new light weight doublets to the market for us visual folks!

Now how about the 175/F9 doublet!?

I'm interested in having such a hi-end class 6" APO for visual use only. So I'd like to make sure the practical differences of optical performance between the two types. Waiting……

if we see this 6" doublet will be accepted well in the market we will do bigger and smaller doublets.

One of my employee made a super compact OTA for his Tak FC 125, his total tube can be moved inside 3 parts, so it becomes airline portable. A design I have not seen anywhere in the world.

This design allo us to make the doublet super compact for transport

due the spherochromatism which cannot be corrected in that doublet with the given glases, you see in this doublet on defocused stars spherochromatical colors.

However excact focused, its colorfree on moon, planets, vega , venus, not even a hint of halo :-), thanks to to the perfect visual optimisation from Massimo Riccardi and LZOS

the refractor discuss this doublet and pal made a statement which is true.

the LZOS doublet show in-focuse no color at all, almost any doublet apo even with Fluorite show a purple halo on bright stars, the Riccardi designed does NOT
