M92 and M26 clusters
      #5252237 - 06/02/12 03:32 PM Attachment (81 downloads)

Hello all,

These are two sketches I made a few days ago, using 10" Newtonain. I observed from my backyard in a city, under 4.9 magnitude skies (and a good seeing). Original drawings were made with a pencil, on a white paper (originals can be found here: m26, m92).

First is a M92 globular cluster in Hercules, at magnification 150X.

p.s. I'm never sure which template is better, so i keep using a variation of them.

and the M26 open cluster in Scutum, at 92X.

In my opinion open clusters like M26, which are located in milky way, actually benefit from light polluted skies. This way the background stars are "turned off", making the cluster stand out.

I prefer without the white circle (like the first sketch).

I like the first sketch without the white circle, and the observing information on the second sketch. Both sketches are very nice.

nice sketching!
I like to sketching without the FOV circles.
But I really never see the edge of field with the eyepieces I use.

Michael,

These are two very fine sketches. M 92 is a real gem of a globular cluster.
I somewhat agree with your comment about M 26, but too much sky glow ruins it.

Frank

Excelent sketches as always. M92 is simply beautiful. I love your work but think they always need the data about scope size and type, magnification and field-of-view size, the cardinal points are always necessary I think. With this type of information you can scale the size and position angle of an object and it's relationship to a bright star if there is one to be seen. That makes a sketch much more enjoyable and usefull to me. The white circle is personal perference and it doesn't make much difference if it is shown or not to me.

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks, and the feedback =)

Anyway I also begin to think that white circle isn't necessary.

Michael,

Excellent observations of M26 and M92. You have recorded many stars to the cores. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Carlos
