I was inspired by the beautiful sketches in this forum. This is my first time sketching at the eyepiece. It is something that takes lots of practice which I don't have yet. So some of my stars are not accurate to scale and not that round.

I tried to clean them up using Gimp. Which I am new to also.

These were sketched last night at home with bad light pollution.

I really like the way sketches look over photos because it is so close to what your eye actually sees.

Thanks and here we go!

Chris,

As much as I enjoy looking at astrophotos, I do agree with you about the sketches matching the eyepiece view.
Your sketches here are very good and I hope you continue making and posting them here for all of us to see.

Frank

Thx Frank, I appreciate that. I can see where it can make you a better observer. A mount with tracking would be easier to sketch with. I find it somewhat difficult to sketch and recenter with a manual dob.
New stars seem to wander into the picture.

But, it is still doable. Just need more practice.

Very very good start!I would suggest not using the circles for the field of view.It makes it all right to add that extra star that drifts in.then after you are done you can always add the circle in digitally.

I was also observing NGC6242 and M6 (among many others) this morning, and I really like your sketches. Well done! I also agree that a tracking mount is better. I have used them but don't own one, yet!

Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys, Jon that is an interesting idea about adding the circle later. Thanks I'll try that.

Very good first sketches. I do agree with John and over the last year I have eliminated the circle on my sketches and I find it liberating. I can always add it again later if I want, but usually I don't want to. I like the glow you did in the background on M4.

Thanks for all the comments. Some of the glow on M4 is from my over active eraser. I did not actually want it quite that large, but thanks.
