Okay, so sometime this week I'll be poking around Draco, Bootes and Ursa Major. I noticed in prepping a few finder charts that Comet LINEAR is just SE of NGC 5520 in Bootes. Starry Night is listing it as a mag. 12.2 right now and I'm just curious if anyone has taken a gander at this lately? Sounds like a nice observation/sketching opportunity.
This site says it is visible in a 8 inch scope in the early evening and another report I read said in late May and early June it appeared at an estimated mag 13 so the current mag of 12.2 is probably about right.

Jay, Skyhound say's that it started the month at mag. 10.8 and will be brightening. They also have a very nice chart for locating the comet. Check out the site and see if you do not like it, I do. http//www.skyhound.com/sh/skyhound.html

Buddy,
Yes I like Skyhound . . . look at the link in my first post. I didn't read enough of the information though. Their finder chart is excellent as always. Part of the reason for the post was to gather info, thanks for reminding me of their charts for comets. The other was to bring it to the attention of those that may not be aware that they can see it down to a 8 inch scopes.

I made an attempt on the weekend but I had a problem with dew so no luck. It had rained earlier in the day so there was a lot of fog and mist in low lying areas. I plan on trying next weekend if the weather permits. Stellarium puts it at 12.15.

I don't think I've ever seen a comet that plots with a double retrograde loop. I wonder what in Linear's orbital path results in that effect? See finder charts at Yoshida's site. I can't visualize how the double retrograde loop happens. - Kurt

They all do, over two oppositions, which is what's being plotted here. (Assuming we're talking about solar system objects with a perihelion outside the aphelion of the earth's orbit).
Plot Mars over three years (two oppositions and a bit): double retrograde loop. Plot Pluto over 18 months: double retrograde loop. The difficulty here is explaining how it might not happen that way.

Jay, i saw it last night (June 12) at about 11pm using the 16" Lightbridge (114x) - sure felt good to log in another comet, but THB it's nothing to write home about. The coma outline looked quite large on the Sky Tools eyepiece chart, but all i could pull in was the nucleus. Sky Tools puts the coma at 5.2' but what i saw (wild guess here) wasn't quite 1.30'. We were still in astronomical twilight when i viewed it though, and i should have waited 1/2 hour for full darkness to set in. Will try again if possible.

We saw the comet last night (17 June ~05:00UT) in upstate NY under conditions of highly variable transparency. We used a C11 at around 200x and an FS128 at 250x, the comet was visible in both scopes (when the transparency was good). Thanks to Pete Fernandez for tracking it down.
I've seen probably a dozen telescopic comets and for being an interesting view this one gets a "below average" mark. Maybe it will improve.

Greg N,
Yes, it was fun to see, and I'm glad Pete called it to our attention. Definitely not, however, one of the visual highlights of the night.
And yet another clear night apparently on the way...

On June 14th, the one clear night so far this month, I took seven 3 minute subs of the comet, and as one can see the comet is basically the nucleus with a small coma.
Cheers...
