Quickie M13 - 8" f4 Newt with 1100D new
      #5267464 - 06/12/12 02:46 AM Attachment (84 downloads)

Took this a few weekends ago, completely forgot about it. I was waiting for the moon to set so I could start work on a mosaic. Got almost an hour of data, 18x300sec @ ISO800. Seeing wasn't particularly great that night but it is what it is. Processed in Pixinsight.

High Res @ Astrobin

That's a very good photo - nice & sharp.

What is the little dougnut to the left of the bright yellow star?
Did you take any flat frames?

I hate when other people's "quickies" are better than my best effort shots...

Nice shot!

Looks like a reflection of some sort. Haven't gotten it with any other images I took with this setup yet so I can't pinpoint it. Nearly 20 flats were taken, it took out the rest of the dust no problem.

The donut is the little circular collimation sticker they put on the primary mirror straight from the factory. Under very high exposures it can rear its ugly head.

I assume you have an AT8IN. I have the same scope and see the same problem with very high exposures. I think you also have to hit it at the right angle as well.

With my GH2 camera I can see M13 in the live view so it makes it really easy to locate the object exactly where I want it in the frame.

Ah, iteresting. I actually have the 8" f3.9 Orion scope but I believe it's pretty much the same as the AT8IN. I have had three other newts with this same exact sticker and never saw it before but they were f5 and f6. If it really bothered me I could easily clone stamp it away.

Thank you. This site isn't super dark. It's a green zone, good enough to see the milky way but some annoying light domes all around. Another hour inland would be much darker. The moon was up when I took this photo as well.

Nice focus. I wouldn't call that a quickie. Real nice colors.

Thanks. This was done @ f4, the image I posted in the thread is cropped a bit, the high resolution image on astrobin was not cropped.

how's your F4 coupling with the MPCC? totally flat through out the field?

MPCC makes the field nearly perfect. A bit of elogation at the edges but not too noticeable. Frames line up perfectly for mosaics even with a minimal overlap.
