Congrats,
I was looking forward to the POD before I built my ROR, its a great design from what I can see and it is far more portable should you move houses. Only reason I didn't get one is that it seems to cost more than the price of the POD to ship something from Canada. Wayne tried really hard and I can't fault him for lack of effort, Canadian shipping just costs too much to the Middle East.
Have fun

audioaficionado, I have a G11 on a HD tripod in mine wearing a 10"f4 SNT. My 13yo son & I are ale to walk (carefully) all around it. bays are the best addition. I have 3; one for the computer, one for the tool chest, & one for OTA storage. I'll probably make a PZT for it before fall. If I do, then a Pier & Deck 1st. They're not cheap or inexpensive, but they work. My observing time went from 3-4x year to 2-3 week as soon as I got mine, & I'm in a white zone (Bortle 8-9). Definitely worth a long look.

Thanx. I wouldn't get one of these for my current home unless I installed it on the roof. Too many tall neighboring trees and trespassing thieves. They even robbed my vegetable garden twice last year by hopping the fences.
I do love the idea of owning a POD in the future when I'm in a safer area. Setup and breakdown hassles are a huge reason not to view the stars on a regular basis.

Motorizing a POD? It's been discussed a bunch but I don't think anyone has actually pulled it off. It would be useful to go back through the archives at the SkyShed POD Yahoo group to be sure, plus many of the conversations about this idea are quite interesting.
In a nutshell there doesn't seem to be a strong need ... since the POD is essentially a half dome when open there isn't nearly the need to move the dome as often as there would be with a narrow shutter style of setup. Sure there is a visor option for the POD which gives you a narrow shutter like opening (useful when there is a lot of ambient light) but it moves out of the way very easily. Also quite a few PODs have the PZT installed which negates any movement of the dome (it's slid off to one side creating something much like an open ROR).
