And I've managed to glimpse a bit in 50mm Binos, so its not all that hard. For the scope though, the OIII was Godsend. Little bits of wispy confetti! I have the same Orion 120mm f/5 refractor you have... with a 2" diagonal, a 31mm Nagler, and UHC filter... you can easily see it's entire expanse! Beautiful! Ill be using my 40 - 32 - 25 mm 1.25 inch eps all plossls, and Orion enhanced diagonal and a 1.25 inch Olll.the 40 and 32 are Orion Sirius plossl, not sure what the true fov of these are, and the 25 is an original Vixen ,again not sure of the actual fov. In conjunction with an f/5 refractor that is. Nothing less than stunning. I thought I'd try again a few nights ago from my white zone backyard using the same filter. It wasn't happening. There was no trace of the veil at all. So the filter couldn't overcome the white zone sky glow. Gotta have reasonably dark skies. Does anyone think an OIII filter would make any difference? First I saw the Western part, (NGC 6960), after first getting 52 Cygni in my finder. I first used a very wide angle eyepiece, (28mm 2" Meade super Wide Angle), and saw it using my Celestron 2" O-III filter. I used a detailed map printed out from Uranometria 2000 which has stars that are faint enough to see in a wide angle eyepiece or finderscope. The map was right on the tube of my 10" dob held by a magnet so that I can orient it exactly like the sky. The map is oriented right side up like my Right Angle Correct Image 9x50 finderscope. In my 28mm SWA Meade 5000 eyepiece, the map appears upside down. I wanted to see the brighter part, which is the Eastern half of the Veil, (NGC-6992), and I got lost because I started tilting the scope in the opposite direction I was supposed to go! A fine CN'er, (Thanks BeatleJuice!), told me that it was in the opposite direction and he was right! The sight was really something to behold! I grabbed my drawing paper and sketched both the East and Western half of the Veil. Oh, I also tried my 2" Orion Ultrablock and it was still visible. Stratocaster: I saw the Veil from my heavily light polluted sky in my Celestron O-III filter from my backyard. Without the filter, even from a dark sky where I go to, the Veil can't be seen. Same goes for my yard....filter is needed, or NOTHING can be seen!
