Just bought a 2nd hand 8SE All in good order except for a single 1" long scratch that is visible most of the time. I'd like to touch it up with Celestron's orange paint. Anyone know where I can get this from (UK, not USA)?

Hi Kon,
Short of writing to Celestron for a description, colour code number etc. it might well be difficult to get a match in view of the "starkness" of the colour: (I can't say I've seen any serial production car of that "shade") !
However, might one of these "pens" do the trick ?

Hoping this just might help, (?)
Best regards,

Hi Kon:
I think your best bet would be to take the OTA to a well stocked auto body repair shop. They have access to a large variety of unusual paints like the metallic paint used on the 8SE. They should have sample books and should be able to find a close match. Often, these are available in small touch-up containers that are like fingernail polish bottles with small brushes attached to the inside of the cap.

Maybe you could cover it with an astro oriented decorative decal.

I'm also in the car hobby as some of you know...I would NOT go to a auto body shop I'd go the the paint suppliers who sell the shop the paint they use...
The better suppliers have "machines" that can match the paint perfectly and sell you a small amount .. Matching the paint on several of my cars would have been impossible with out those "machines" .. guess-to-mate that total price will be between 15-20 bucks for a few ounces of the paint .. BTW.. you only need a drop of the paint applied in the bottom of the scratch .. once dry apply several very thin thin coats of clear until the clear is slightly higher then the surface then gently use 2000 grit sand paper followed by rubbing it out with toothpaste and you will never see the scratch..

Thanks Bob. I'll have a go at this. Failing that/make a mess- a sticker looks a good option.

Go for a complete re-spray and use chamelion paint.
Sure to get heaps of admiring glances at a Star Party!
Some examples:

Yeah, weird stuff. As you move around the car, the colour changes.
I expect that it is a bugger to paint-match if you have a scrape though!
