We are taking trip to a green zone new
      #5279871 - 06/19/12 11:28 PM

Hello everyone-

So far all of my viewing pleasures have been done in a red zone
I will be spending a few days with the family camping in a green zone
This will be my 1st time out to a darker location with a telescope the views I get from here are pretty impressive to me already.

I want to ask how much more can I expect to see but this post is intended to share my excitement of getting to a darker location and having plenty of time to get sucked into the eyepiece I hope the sky plays in my favor.

-Thanks

You're about to find out why "the best observing accessory is a full tank of gasoline."

Enjoy!

If you're like me and live in a white/red zone you'll find your scope has grown 4 sizes.

I won't live in anything worse than a green zone! Be prepared to have your mind blown!

You may find that a bit more time is required to ID some of your favorite objects in a darker sky, due to the sheer increase in visible objects. It's a wonderful "problem" to have, though.

Heres what you can expect:

The milky way will be clearly visible half way above the horizon. Light domes from nearby towns are easily distinguishable (you might be able to identify the towns too). Familiar constellations will be hard to identify as many more stars are visible in them. Bright DSOs may be visible to the naked eye (particularly M31).

Through your scope it will be easier to identify faint objects. Favorites that you know will become easier to see and show more detail. This time of year go after M51. You will see more detail on it than before. Binoculars make for jaw dropping experiences when cruising the Milky Way between Sagittarius and Cygnus.

With the family passed out from a day on the lake I stayed up all night and it was worth it ..... I did have a plan on some objects I wanted to look for but just spend hours scanning and panning "so much to see so little time to see it. Oh and the Seeing was perfect not a cloud to be seen. We have already secured another site for July 20th WOOT WOOT ...
I did break the screw that secures my finder scope no biggie I am going to get a telrad and 32mm eye piece and a barlow all will be budget brands.......
