Here's my first cobble stone of our Milky Way - taken on March 30th with a naked Sony Nex-5N, 25secs single shot in ISO3200 and then altered in iPhoto. Since then, I have been tampering with Photoshop and stacking attempts ... I start to understand the use of stacking but am far from producing satisfying results

Here is M13 imaged through a Canon 550D, Skyw 120mm f8.3 for 20 secs at 3200 ISO.I'm happy with this image for two reasons.I got to test out a new field power pack that i bought for my mount (HEQ5) and i have pretty much solved my alignment issues...(with help from fellow imager)
Clear skies all!!!

This was my first (and last) attempt at astrophotography.
I took this way back in 2001 with an ETX-90 and a Sony 3.1 megapixel Cybershot.
Then life got in the way. I'm now considering purchasing new equipment and really getting into it this time around.

M44
I'm still messing around with wide field shots with my DSLR while waiting for my scope to come in. I've done a few tries before but never captured anything "interesting."
Last night I was trying for at least something in Leo with a 50mm lens but ended up with a bunch of blurry photos.
I was looking at SkySafari for other potential targets and saw M44 was in the area of the sky I could hit with my camera (trees, house, and streetlights severely limit my view in the backyard). I couldn't see it with the naked eye but it showed up with a 10 second exposure (I may or may not have squealed like a girl when it popped up on the LCD screen). I readjusted to try to get M67 in the frame as well, but don't think I did. I snapped 15 or so lights and stacked in DSS.
It's not ready for prime time, but I did learn/reinforce some valuable lessons:
1) Bug spray - keep it handy
2) Lugging out a laptop is a pain, but worth it to make sure the focus is razor sharp before snapping 20 frames. Focusing through a viewfinder sucks.
3) Flats actually ARE important. LOL. Vignetting was terrible in this pic., hence the tight crop.
4) More shorter exposures may be better than less longer ones to avoid a ton of LP washout.
5) Distances on star maps versus real sky take some getting used to.
Thanks for looking!

Okay...first ever attempt. Took it a couple of hours ago in the light polluted skies of the Chicago suburbs. Saturn. Lens held up to eyepiece. Not pretty, but it is what it is.

My first was the partial eclipse 5/20/12 from So cal. I used my wifes Sony point & shoot lined up with my 25mm ep. I had a Baader astro solar filter (visual) over the objective.

This was the best of several tries my first night out. Sky-Watcher 10 dob with D5000 and t-adapter. I just started a thread asking what to do next ("next steps after first lunar photos").

Posted this in the Venus Transit thread in this forum. I used an Orion Starblast 6 with white light solar filter and a 26mm plossl eyepiece for 35X. Images were shot with a point and shoot camera hand-held through the eyepiece. This was one of the best of about 150 images I took. Pretty excited with how it turned out for the first time shooting anything astronomy related.

M102/NGC 5866. Having just purchased and finally aligned and calibrated my CGEM for the first time I decided to try out M102. Not really realizing the difficulty in acquiring this particular object I forged ahead in ignorant bliss as is evidenced by the results. I however am relatively pleased that I got what I did considering I have no idea what i am really doing while shooting and post processing. Just shot from the hip the whole way.
Vixen ED100SF,coma corrector/field flattener on Canon 450D (unmodded), Orion magnificent mini autoguider, PHD, CGEM, DSS, PP in PS2.
20 x 130sec., 20 x 240 sec. ISO800
20 dark applied to only the 240 sec exposures. Forgot to get 130 sec. darks.
20 flats and 20 bias frames.
Post processed in PS2 not knowing what the heck I was really doing.
