Got a new ES 82* 6.7mm in the mail the other day. As with all the ES line they are nicely built, solid yet compact eyepieces. I also have a 7mm TMB and "new to me" used Meade zoom 8mm-24mm. I got the Meade to use as a children's eyepiece.
I always get nervous when small kids use my scope. This way I don't have to worry as much if something happens.
I was able to get a quick look the other night at saturn with the ES and TMB before the weather went south.
With the short time I had I noticed the increase in field of view of course. The planet takes much longer to go across the field. I did not time the two eyepieces but plan on it.
I really could not see a noticeable difference between the two as far as sharpness. At moments of good seeing the cassini was very crisps in both eyepieces and visible all the way around. Saw 5 moons maybe 6. Could see A,B,and C with both easily. No surprise there. Was able to observe 3-4 different shades of banding with both eyepieces. But, the ES seemed to be a different color tone. Darker on some bands than the TMB. I would view for 5min with one eyepiece then switch to the other. I repeated this for 30mins or so.
Sometimes I would think the Tmb was the winner then sometimes the ES, but it was just seeing conditions during the 5 min sessions.
I did not have time to test the planet on the edge of the field or flaring.
I plan on testing these and the Meade zoom more when ever I can. Weather permitting.
I did not buy the ES for planetary but it is nice to know it will work just fine if I choose to use it as such. I really want to test it on some globs and faints galaxies.
I am just happy about the 50.00 TMB holding it own against the ES.
Maybe once I use the ES more my assessment of it will change , but I think the two are very similar except for field of view.

Congrats on the 6.7. In my XT10i my 6.7 gives an absolutely beautiful view of M13.

I think the 6.7mm is my new favorite piece for globular clusters. I really like the extra field it gives when compared to my TMB that I was using for glob bustin'. M15 and M2 were excellent last night in my 12. Even with the moon out M15 was close to be resolved to the core.
Both M2 and M15 framed nicely in the 82* field. Noted that M15 was brighter than M2 with a tighter core.
I also observed and sketched NGC 7009 and NGC 7662. Saturn neb had it classic shape at 224x and The Blue Snowball had the small black hole in the center at this mag.
I barlowed the ES with a 2inch Zhumell barlow for 448x on both targets and was able to observe and sketch incredible structure in both nebs. The views were similar to some of the astrophotos I have seen of these two.
Very impressed with the 6.7 so far. Me thinks the 4.7mm may be next.

Ditto.
The ES 6.7mm & 4.7mm are excellent for the $$$. If I wasn't such a nut for Pentax eyepieces, I would have kept the 6.7mm ES as it is a good performer. The only thing that kinda irked me with the 6.7mm was kidney beaning if you get too close to the lens, otherwise, it is indeed a wonderful eyepiece and so is the 4.7mm ES.
Eye relief is tight on the 4.7mm, but sharpness of the field is really good.

Interesting claim.
ES specifies the 6.7 and 4.7 as having the same ER (14mm).
I agree about the kidney beaning with the 6.7 though.

This was not a "claim". I tried both the 6.7mm and the 4.7mm the same night at the same time and the ER on the 4.7 was a lot tighter than the 6.7mm. The website says they are the same ER, but it isn't true.

Christopher,
Thanks. It's always good to give information about your telescope when testing or reviewing equipment.
