These are only my 6th sketches ever. I am pretty new at this and trying to translate what I see accurately on paper. This time observed longer and rough sketched at the eyepiece then went inside and refined what I saw from memory.

Oh, I did not include the backdrop stars because this time I wanted to concentrate on the nebs. only.

I'm not sure if I will keep doing it this way, but I am trying different techniques to see what work for me.

Ultimately, the finally power for these sketches was 446x with a ES 6.7mm 82* eyepiece. Used a Z12 F/5 steady skies from my red zone home. Time was about 12:00am-3:00am.
I also observed many other objects last night but only sketched these two. Thanks for looking

Thanks guys, I think 7009 needed little more work. I notice some things on it now that I could have done better. Cleaned up more. Little messy. It is hard to get my shading to stay smooth and soft throughout. You know uniform.

But, it's is close to what I observed.

Those are very nice. I like the mottled structure. What materials are you using? Do you have a tracking platform?

Thanks Matt, I am using a manual Dob 12 inch. I was using a 82* eyepiece. I first just track the object and get a good mental picture of what they look like. I rough sketch the basic shape. For the finer details I do the look then sketch routine normally. This time however I rough sketched the object then took a good long look at them focusing on the details, then went inside in the light and finished them from memory. Then went back outside to double check.

I am just trying this method out and may not keep using it.

I only used 4b pencil on these. Also used stump, eraser.

I agree, those 82°-100° eyepieces help a lot at those powers. I sketch a similar way: let the image soak in for 10-20 minutes or more; make rough sketch; refine by checking on the object in the scope several times; refine again the next day while the memory is fresh.

You nailed the color well.
