My windows 7 laptop has worked better for the astro software than I expected. I'd just prefer the Mac.

Well, I'm on day 4 of clouds or clouds and rain. I would love to get the PEC teasing finished so I can enjoy getting out at night. Maybe tomorrow it will clear enough.

Hi,
My laptop had crashed back on the 22nd right after imaging. Well today I took it apart, removed the hard drive then reinstalled it and it started working. Everything was saved, even my phd graphs from that night. I am so relieved. Now if it would just stop raining.

Now, back up those files! It's the one thing everyone should do but usually they don't.

Windows 7 works fine for me, you probably have other issues with the computer, virus, bad video card etc.
Win7 is the most stable of all the OS I have used, including
Mac Panther OS from 3 years ago.

My Windows 7 laptop (Vista before that) does not have any stability issues, I just prefer the Mac. I have clients using Macs and Windows bases networks and our Windows clients consistently have more issues than those using Macs. Mostly related to network issues and not having a person on staff that knows enough to keep things running smoothly. I know more about the Mac so a true Windows"expert" would probably have a different experience.

The weather cleared and I got out last night to see if I could get some PE data on the LX80... complete disaster! I think I know what I did wrong so will give it another shot tonight.

Hi Everyone,
I am not an expert at these graphs as to whats good compared to others so I wanted to ask. I am showing a picture of my PE that I recorded with the mount then uploaded it to Pempro and clicked the smooth button 3 times then downloaded it back to the mount.(bottom picture)

Then I guided that 10 minute image posted on the bottom of page 58 in post #5437279.

The top picture is of the Phd graph of that images guiding. I uploaded the Phd graph in Pecprep. This is with PEC turned on.
I get confused at some of the graphs I've seen. I thought mine wasn't good because it goes above +10, but I tried a long guided image and it came out good. Then I saw the Phd graph it made and it looks good to me. But are the rough spots ok or do I need to get them smoother. Or should I leave it alone so I dont screw it up. CGEM DX 9.25 EdgeHD
this top pic. is the guided phd graph with the Pec turned on and the lower one is the PE from my mount after I smoothed it

Astronomics just called me and asked if I still wanted the LX80 I pre ordered last year. They are in stock now. I hated turning down that $799. price tag but it looks like Meade isn't going to fix this mount any time soon. I said no.

Neilson,

Well, the way things worked out you certainly don't need another LX80 but for under $800. Astronomics does give another 10% off with free shipping... For visual, my mount (from Astronomics recently) seems to be much better than your early one.

Gday Andrew,

Here is a link to download my latest attempt at gathering some data... still don't think I have everything correct. I was going to scrap the whole session and start over but I couldn't wake up the HC. Had to unplug it from the mount. At that point I called it a night.

Gday Mike

The data is showing some pretty big peaks,
but your data doesnt cover a full turn of the worm,
let alone several.
Ie the worm period is 560secs and your last data element
( as shown in PECPrep ) is only 400seconds of data.
The main peaks are showing a 92sec period, which is approx 1/6 of a turn,
ie 6 peaks per rev????
Cant see how that occurs yet.

Andrew

Andrew.

I'm sure user error needs to be factored in... as soon as I get another good night I'll give it another try. I have a bad back from time to time (getting old sucks) and have to time a recovery from that with good seeing. If shipping to Australia wasn't so much and transit times so long, I'd just send this to you. But, I'll keep trying.

After getting all setup, is there anyplace in the sky that would be best to gather the data?

It wouldnt help as i rarely see the sky at present.
Been a cloudy year.
Anyway, i hear the first few mounts have arrived downunder,
so maybe someone near me will get one soon

Anything close to the equator and within say 45deg ( in RA ),
either side of the meridien.

Gathering the info will certainly help you understand the mount along the way, but dont let it get in the way of using it as well.

Andrew

Well, it is getting a bit better. Same camera and scope (FL=600mm). Here is a link to the PhD file:
