Excellent schmidt camera work on b&w! new
      #5295081 - 06/29/12 03:47 PM

Hi all!
I want to share this website containing the excellent astrophotographs taken by the late italian amateur Aldo Radrizziani. Great work! Many taken through his schmidt camera on unhypered(!!!) technical pan!

Inspiring work! Working with such a large and fast system, one can get away with unhypered TP film. The detail and contrast of the large (4x5) negatives is amazing. It is this type of masterful astrophotography the world will be without from now on. Makes me melancholy.

Fabulous stuff here. I feel the same Jim, but also resentful in a way. We now have equipment - lenses - scopes, but no films left that will record the reds in colour or B&W.

I'd be shooting B&W constantly if I could get results like this.

Rollei ATP 1.1 and Ilford Delta 400 have good red sensitivity. Somebody must try hypering them. Ilford Delta 400 can be used right out of the box too I guess... Ilford 3200 has also nice red sensitivity but the grain is huge! The prints look like coarse sandpaper...

This is the evolution of the instrument in digital fashion.

Now we just need a much larger sensor to make proper use of this optic!

I doubt if even with a single lens flatenner a large CCD chip will give same quality results as the curved film.

I agree. The conversion of an optical system designed for a very wide field on a very large piece of film cannot be replicated. Attempts to do so do not provide the intended wide-field image intended by the design. If you have not ever seen the large negatives shot with the worlds largest Schmidt Cameras, prepare to be overwhelmed.

Where can you even buy a Schmidt camera anymore? I have hundreds of rolls of the last batches of TP in both 35mm and 120mm in deep freeze that I use primarily for fine art, but it would be fun to do some Astro work with a bit of it...Hence my username...

They turn up from time to time on Astromart.
The Celestron 5" & 8" are common, but the 14" is rare.
JSO in Japan made many sizes but they dont show up much in the USA.
