Observing in Honduras
      #5312590 - 07/11/12 09:26 AM

All,

Does anyone have any experience observing in Honduras?

My wife and I will be there on a mission internship for two months beginning in mid-October and ending just before Christmas. I've looked ahead in Stellarium and have a general idea of what will be visible.

I'll be taking a pair of bino's probably the 10x60 Oberwerk Mariners because of their durability, size and they are waterproof. We'll be living in some of the more remote rural areas and a scope would be inconvenient to say the least. (although I've thought about taking a 4.5" mirror, secondary, focuser and a couple of eyepieces and building something when we get there! - maybe when we relocate permanately?!?!?!?)We'll be operating out of the capital city with a lot of trips to the rural areas and will be living out of a backpack a majority of the time (hence the rational for binos - lightweight and rugged). BTY, my R51 laptop is going too - gotta be able to access CN!

I'd really be interested in informed feedback, experiences, and suggestions about locations, must-see objects, perils, pitfalls and all that stuff from someone who has been there. (any contacts in-country would be a BIG +++!)

Thanks in advance !!!

Mike
