The finder scope on the new CPC 11 was rapidly wearing out its welcome. A Telrad would be great but I'm not ready to tape one to the tube just yet.
I started fiddling around with both units and saw that the Telrad might possibly fit into the Synta 50mm bracket.
Off we go...

Take a file to the outside edges of the Telrad and remove just enough material so that the nose of the telrad slides into the rear ring of the finder scope bracket.
That accomplished, time to saw off the front feet of the Telrad.
You should now be able to push the Telrad forward, up to the front mounting ring.

Stick some tape on the front mounting ring and mark where the centered and leveled Telrad contacts the ring.
Break out the files (a square file works well) and start removing material and checking your work frequently.
This is what i ended up with.

Ingenious idea... I have unfortunately taped my Telrad onto my OTA, so no going back now
What is the best way to remove the sticky tape from your OTA, assuming one day you want to do this? Can you avoid messing up the OTA paint job?

You can clean up any rough areas on the Telrad with wet/dry sandpaper. I stopped at 1200....gotta go get some 2000 and then the Telrad will look pretty good.

Remove the ring mounting hardware. Disassemble the spring-loaded plunger and re-install the main casing....it holds the Telrad very nicely.
What do you think?

Very easy to remove, simply by using dental stripping, or as I used, the thin "leader" line for fishing. Start at one end of the Telrad base, & start "sawing" back & forth, as you apply downward pressure towards you. It comes off very well, leaving little residue behind. You can use any product such as Goop to remove what little residue is left.

I think you've got great problem solving skills, not to mention the wryest wit at CN.

Hair dryer, I recently did this and it works great. I thought I would need a screw driver to pry it up: Not necessary. I was even able to pick off the little pieces that remained with my fingers in conjunction with the hair dryer. The metal tube of my scope did get momentarily hot, so don't burn your fingers.

Another sticky tape remover: Skin oil! Yep, just rub a finger tip against the side of your nose and then rub it on the offensive residue. Add more oil if necessary. Clean up with a dab of soap on a damp rag.
