New Giant 10' Planisphere from SkyShed!
      #5320795 - 07/16/12 05:48 PM Attachment (92 downloads)

How about a new 10' Planisphere for your observatory, school or home?

This new giant planisphere flooring is intended to be used in the soon-to-be-launched POD MAX, but can also be used in any situation where you'd like to have a large star chart at your feet for education or decor. Friends we've shown the finished product to think the "coolness factor" is off the chart.

This is not just a 10' star chart. It's a real, working, giant Planisphere. We worked with a top rated flooring company in the U.S. and had them recreate the best Planisphere out there, in hi res, on commercial quality vinyl floor, in a 10' circle. The same kind of flooring you see new cars sitting on in the showroom of car dealerships. The image is below the surface and will not scratch off. Great for public outreach.

Instead of spinning the top window layer like you do on a handheld Planisphere, you walk around the Planisphere. We will include simple instructions so that you can walk to a point which will show the current stars from about a 20 degrees north latitude, right up to 50+ degrees latitude.

Normally the flooring comes in two pieces. This is easier for shipping and handling, and so that you can cut out a circle for your pier if used in an observatory. If you're going to use it somewhere other than an observatory, like a schoolroom, it can be left in one 10' piece.

More versions. We're working on a Southern Hemisphere version, and other exciting versions. Even YOUR own custom image. How about a gallery of your own astro images?.

About the photos. We rolled the flooring our after it had being tightly wrapped for shipping, so all edges including the center join are curled up a little. That's because the flooring is not installed, just rolled out. Once we install it in POD MAX we'll update the images.

Please contact us for more info. Introductory price is $1,195. Made in the U.S.A. Ships from the U.S.A.

Clear Skies!
Wayne Parker

Thanks Rex! We think so too.

Looks even better in real life.

Does that seam in the middle eventually flatten out pretty well after it's been unrolled and laid down? I bet some flooring tape underneath it to join the seam makes for a pretty nice fit.

Thanks for asking Rex,

Yes we just received the new flooring from the manufacturer when we took the pics. It had been rolled up tightly.

If you leave it flat it will flatten out naturally. It was already doing that when we took the pics.

For a complete installation you use flooring tape at the edges. You can also add under padding the same way you would if you were installing vinyl flooring in your home.

Wayne, Can you make a POD version (need to be able to put a large hole in it for the pier)?

Thanks for asking Jon,

They can only be made in 5', 10', and 15' increments.

10' is smaller than the POD MAX I.D. which is over 11', but will work, but a 5' version with a hole cut out for the pier it would be too small for POD 8'.

Wish we could make it work for POD 8' but I can't see it.
