Hello everybody. I would like to get an 6" achromatic refractor to do some sun imaging. I have found these two brands. The prices of the 6" are very similar between the Istar 6"/f10 and the D&G 6"/f12. Someone has compared these two telescopes and know the pros and cons?... Thank you very much in advance......
Regards Rob

Here's an easy answer. If you don't expect to live another year to 18 months I'd buy the Istar. Based on what my Istar 10" F/11 R30 shows me it's an absolute no brainer too!! Mike

I have the 6"F12 D&G, and its absolutely an incredible 6" refractor. Never looked through an Istar so I can't comment on that, but I do know that Barry Greiner at D&G is a master in his field, the "Roland Christen" of achromtic refractors!!. Well worth the wait in my books. bob

My own preference would be for the D & G 6" f12 before an Istar 6" f10 but it is true you will probably have to wait a long time after placing your order for a new D & G.
You may be lucky and find a used one. They both make nice lenses and OTA's.

Istar certainly needs better publicity, most members of our Astroclub turn to TS in Germany for large refractors

I'd be curious too to find one of these and do some observing with it...Istar seems to offer an interesting product.

Well, now you can tell everyone in the club about ISTAR. If you, and they are interested, you can join the club in my sig. A lot if info there, and the owners will answer questions there also.

Thank you everybody for the comments. On the D & G website the schedule to get a 6" / f12 it is 4 to 6 months. It seems like the time on the real world is very long to get one.....

Call Barry Greiner to get a good estimate, depending on how busy he is, the wait time might surprise you, on the good side. bob

I agree with Bob, don't believe the website. Communicate with Barry, he will give you an honest answer based on his current schedule.

The last time I spoke to Barry he was making inroads to being more caught up. I'm willing to bet he's more focused on scope making than keeping the website current.
Best, Joe

... I have several D&G's. Barry is the man. Call him, don't email him. FYI, he has been super busy the last 6 months. I've been waiting 9 months for a scope.
