purple fringe in binoviewer?? new
      #5321293 - 07/17/12 12:38 AM

hi all,

so... still waiting for a clear night to use my new WO binoviewers. in the meantime, i get to do fun things like... look through them with no eyepieces in the barrels. and i found that, on the left eyepiece, about an 1/8 of the FOV was purple -- a stark line of the color with uniform coverage.

i haven't put them in the scope yet because i'm awaiting arrival of my siebert OCA's.

anyway, is that purple color normal? or does it mean a prism is out of alignment? just wondering what everyone thought.

i don't see it in the right eyepiece. also, it shifts position and diminishes when turning the 'focus' housing on the binoviewer.

i don't see it at all with eyepieces in, aimed at a bright light.

It's normal. I see it in my Maxbright as well. It's because you can look at the prisms at a slight angle when there's no eyepiece in the bino. You can also see this colored area in prism diagonals. Nothing to worry about, unless you can see it in the exit pupil of the eyepiece.

Clear skies!
