Sounds like the Azimuth axis needs adjusting and that isn't easy to do.
You might need to call Meade and/or check out Mike Weasner's web site for ideas.
A local camera service shop might be able to fix it as well.

I only have an ETX80 and I know it is built a bit different. When the ETX80 behaves that way the bushings need cleaning along with the clutch. There is a nut that adjusts the thrust bearing that is usually to tight.

The newer ETX-90/105/125 models all have a complex RA mechanical assembly that is hard to figure-out if you don't know the tricks. As a rule I suspect that it is a more complex process than most people are prepared to deal with.
The ETX-60/70/80 scopes use a lot more plastic and have less complex internal mechanisms.

Check for chipped teeth or tooth in the plastic gears. Even a small crack between two teeth will cause the gear to expand under stress. As mentioned, there's plenty of components that can be suspect when this happens. I have disassembled mine down to many individual parts and I was amazed at the nonsense I found. A small piece of erroneous plastic caught up in a gear, to too much grease, and even a bur on a tooth of a metal gear! All that and more steming from rushed assembly at the factory. Now I feel confident about the scope.

Sorry for reviving an old thread. I had a similar issue with my ETX 125. Turns out the culprit was not in the gears, but was the RA setting band that was too wide, getting stuck, and making the RA drive sticky and jerky. You may want to try to remove that setting band see if it helps (it is easy to put back afterwards. )

I had this problem. With mine as well. The fix as where that spur gear (that is one the shaft on the worm gear) meshes with the gearbox, it gets stuck because mine was tightened way too much. The fix is is you try to move the gears a little bit on their shafts. The last one that meshes with that one on the worm gear shaft is the one that's the problem. It will move a little on its own shaft. You can message me here on cloudy night and I can send you soe pictures or a video of what I did
