TEC 6 new home new
      #5327089 - 07/20/12 03:39 PM

I just picked up TEC 6 #50 that I scored off the other site. It's in really excellent condition. I have had TEC refractors( can I mention that here?) but had never seen the Mak Cass before, I was not disappointed, same quality as the refractors.
I have a brand new EM 11 coming to mount it on, should make a great light weight combo. I will post picks next week when I get the mount.
Keith

Congrats! You will love that scope.

I have #25 and I have zero plans to ever let it go. It's smaller and lighter, plus the views are equal to my old TEC 140.

I spotted the ad and that one didn't stay on the market very long.

Cheers,

Ron

I have the #1 with quartz primary, a tiny masterpiece.

That's a great lightweight setup, Keith.

I used to have #25, I bought the Fax Max case for it.
I took it to the WSP in 2010.

I traded it for an 11" Zambuto that I still have.

I am going to try the TEC out tonight, but the only mount I have is my MIni Hitch, which is barely up to the task my EM11 will be here Tuesday.

Ray,

The Fat Max case is a great fit and still works great! Thanks for that.

Somewhere along the line, someone tried to glue an extra finder bracket to the tube. We had a heck of a time cleaning that stuff off, but the scope now looks as good as new and the optics are still wonderful.

Cheers,

Ron

Ron, mine has 2 finder bracket locations, does #25? Or is this something Yuri added later?

Small world! I used to own #25 too, about five or six years ago. Yes, it does have two finder bracket locations. They all do, I think.

I'm sad to learn that after I sold it somebody glued a finder bracket onto it and glad that wonderful scope has been restored to its original state. When I sold it I got seller's regret almost instantly and picked up another TEC-6 which I've had ever since.

Bob

Given the scarcity of good glass for refractors lately, I'm a bit surprised that Yuri hasn't restarted production of the MC's. I tend to think that he will eventually. Not the best design for my climate and needs, but I've been tempted by them before.

His MC's are exquisite. My TEC MC200/f15 is not to be believed. While I despise a corrector and the ensuing dew, they just serve up some of the best views around.

Number 25 also has the two regular finder locations. A lot of alt-az mounts (like Discmount, etc.) force you to turn the scope on its side for mounting. This person decided to glue another finder shoe so they would have another "on top" so to speak.

The glue had dried out and the finder shoe popped off easily, but the glue residue left a very slight discoloration behind. I talked to Yuri about a new powder coat job, but he suggested that it probably wasn't worth the expense. The optics are in perfect condition and I have no plans to sell this scope, so I can live with the blemish. If I didn't point it out, you probably wouldn't be able to see it.

BTW - Yuri told me that he has been considering a new run of Maks. He is thinking about a 7 inch size this time, so stay tuned..........

Cheers,

Ron

We had decent conditions in Ct last nite. I tried the 6 out for a bit, excellent star test and Saturn looked great! The Mini Hitch was over loaded and was a bit frustrating as I could only get to about 70 degrees before the scope would hit the mount. Very shaky too, but I was able to confirm that the TEC Mak Cass are very nice. I am very excited about getting it properly mounted, hopefully later this week.
