Speaking of astrophysics, or physics, I will be glad to answer any questions about the recent discovery at CERN that seems to be most likely the Higgs Boson.

Kerry, you are fortunate to have everything packed yesterday and to leave this morning. We are finding it a little difficult to get everything in our vehicles amid the soaking we are receiving right now.

Ajay

I got most of the big items packed last night. I still have more to do after work. I am aiming for getting out at 530pm so it will be a mad dash to get to goldendale by dark. I want to apologize in advance for driving up after dark, in case i do. I will be in the truck that drives right past the driveway then turns around to come back....

It's around noon, and Pixie and I are leaving . . . for a couple of store stops, then onward.

I've been Lurking on this thread having been undecided whether to go to Goldendale or continue my annual pilgrimage to tmsp.
I've decided to go to Goldendale this year! If you see an old maroon subaru sedan, that's me.
Anyone know how dewey it is over there?

Im also going to call BS on the Dark Sky Finder. According to the map, I am in an orange area. Im in an orange area at home. At home its hard to make out all of the big dipper, here in Medford (almost to Jacksonville) I see a mysterious milky cloud above my head and down to the horizon. . . . .

Just reached home after driving back from Goldendale. What an awesome event!
Two nights of incredible skies (the second even better than the first) and some great images! I'll post them as I process them.
Can't wait for August...

Glad to hear you guys had great wheather. At first I thought Friday would not pan out..but at around 10:00 it cleared and was fantastic. Saturday the same..but a bit better with the transparency. Nice to not have a bright moon polluting everything. Glad you could find clear skies this weekend.

I might even go out and open the OB tonight even..if I'm not too tired.

Waiting for the images...

Rob

Friday and Saturday were great. I thought I'd stay Sunday night, but the seeing is predicted to be yucky at best for tonight. Certainly the wind was picking up a lot by the time we left around 1:00 p.m.

Looking forward to the next one...

Ajay

Back home to the rain. Saturday night, i was loving the views, found some objects that were new to me in the south, and then about 2am sat in my lounge chair and just enjoyed the sky until i fell asleep.... The only hard part about bringing Shane was that i couldn't take a good nap before dark. So i missed my look at pleiades,Venus, and Jupiter. Upsetting but, i still had a great time. Shane's choo choo train needs a bath before he can have it back in the house though. He had fun too.

Now *that* is how all G/dale weekends are supposed to turn out! I'd rate Friday night as "very good," but I think Saturday was the best I've seen there. The night became windless, and it was warm, dry and clear. (So warm, in fact, that I think for the first time I never put on a jacket -- just a couple of layers and a windbreaker on top.) I think it was the best Milky Way I've seen at the place.

But timing, as they say, is everything. The TAS people who had been there Thursday night were hit with a tent-flattening wind. Sound familiar? Friday I drove the route south on I-5 through rain showers, then up the river. The clouds broke up around Hood River, with nothing but blue to the east and that was the last I saw of threatening clouds until I crossed Snoqualmie to the west yesterday afternoon. I've seen that movie before.

I enjoyed meeting some newcomers. Ram is the essence of dedication: AP mount but no tent. (Then again, he might be the smart one, since I have yet to see a G/dale wind that can flatten a car.) Kyle is a personable enthusiast. Ajay's family are delightful, and his two dogs were well mannered, plus Pixie had another greyhound to chat with!

Kerry, thanks for procuring the pottie and organizing the weekend (and actually showing up!) If anyone forgot to "tip" him for the pottie, remember to catch up next time.

The weekend was fantastic indeed. A huge thanks to our host Mike for allowing us to be there under the stars.

It was great to finally meet Kerry (& wife) and I really enjoyed your custom truss scope. Thanks to you, I now see the value of a coma corrector.

Kyle - so glad you made it from Yakima. Love your enthusiasm and you are very knowledgeable at 19!

Ram - it was good to meet you, look forward to seeing some images.

TAS - Some really wonderful folks there, and thanks again for the free lunch on Saturday. It was nice seeing families & kids there.

Sean - Shane is awesome, glad he made it out.

I stayed up until just before sunrise on Sunday morning, even got a descent view of Jupiter as it climbed in the dawn sky.

Pretty nice turnout overall, must have been close to 30 people between the two groups.

It was great to finally meet the new comers to the group...hopefully one day we can get a chance to organize another Mt. St. Helens SP!

I only had time to do a test run with my smaller video setup, but will bring the full package next time. I need at least 3 to 4 days to do it proper and have time to use the dob as well.

Special thanks for those who pitched in for the porta-can & wash station.

Hope to see everyone next month, plus those who couldn't make it this month. Should be a good size group.

Well, thanks and you're welcome. I'll take a small, stiff bow but Kerry's the one who put this together.

Sean, you'll be finding some of my dirt for a few weeks now. Be sure to collect it and send it back to G/dale.

It was great meeting everyone.

I can't thank Kerry enough for setting up the Important details and Mike for allowing us to be on His Land.

Steve, It was great meeting you, The "Jam" session with mike and Sean/Shane was fun, If every little kid was like him the world would be a calmer place.

I can't wait to see everyone again, I hope the sky is just as stunning this next time.
