An older friend has this book and says much good about it. I've not read it, but have just looked over the table of contents online and checked out a few pages. I think it's a quite excellent introduction, which will provide a great deal of understanding on the makeup and phases of the ISM (interstellar medium.) It could be considered something of a companion volume to Kaler's excellent Stars, fleshing out in somewhat greater detail its subject matter.
Incidentally, if one is seeking out an all-in-one, accessible source on stars, their life cycles and the makeup and recycling of the interstellar gas and dust, one could hardly do better than Kaler's fine book. A next step up might be the undergrad-level Galactic Astronomy, by Binney and Merrifield.
