Where is everyone storing this monster size edition? Doesn't come close to fitting on any book shelf.

For this atlas, a vertical position is not recommended. Mine is in flat position (best position I think) on the top off my shelf.

I just got done sticking all my little reinforcing circles in, and it went quicker than I expected... I only did one side, and once I got the hang of it, the circles stuck tight and were easy to handle. (Avery reinforcement labels from WalMart.)
At first glace, this thing is pretty easy to use, considering it's so huge... The maps in front to find the right chart are clear and easy to read, and if you don't land on the right one, a quick look at the front maps will show where you want to go. I wondered if I'd have to number the charts on the lower right hand corner, but it's easy to flip through the lower left corner to find the right one.
I first tried looking for the Dumbbell. I found Sagitta with no trouble, but the Dumbbell was off the chart... a quick look back at the chart in front steered me to chart #97. In this case, it wouldn't help much planning a starhop, but it shows the field well. In this case, the Uranometria 2000 might win in my quick, personal evaluation. Next, I tried the Crab. I landed on the right chart the first time, and again the field was very detailed. Using my clear FOV circles, my low power eyepiece showed 2 or 3 stars on the Uranometria 2000. However, laying the circle on the Great Atlas showed a field peppered with more stars than I bothered to count. In this case, The Great Atlas of the Sky was a clear winner. I doubt if the Great Atlas will replace my Uranometria, especially for binocular use, but time and more familiarity will tell. I can tell now that the Great Atlas will be my first choice when I want to find a good starfield to find a dimmish galaxy. A wonderful atlas, no regrets at all in buying this thing! Now, I gotta figure out where to PUT it... Marty

I also just finished reinforcing the holes. Just a few hours in total. Just did one side. If I see a need, I'll do the other. It's an impressive book, and I don't plan to take it into the field, but I do plan to figure out my star hops with it before I go out. As for storing it, I think I'll add a 3" shelf to my Astronomy Closet...and slide it right in. I don't think that for long term storage, vertical would be good.
Very glad to have acquired it. It's a fine atlas and nice addition to any astronomy library. My only concern is that the paper doesn't seem very heavy duty. Without a lot of care when using, it could get worn out looking really fast.

Ordered Aug/Sep Shipped 9/15/12 Received today 10/19/12 It does take a long time to receive, but for only $99 it is well worth the wait!
This is an impressive and very big Star/DSO Atlas.
I plan to use double reinforces for first and last 10 pages, plus Orion, Saitarius, Scorpio, Serpens, Andromeda, Taurus, Virgo, Leo, and Cygnus. Single reinforcers for all other pages. Hopefully this won't make it too thick for the binder.
269 large fold out pages (135 gouble sided fold outs).

The atlas comes double boxed and the charts are in their own box on top of that. Pages unfold with star maps front and back. I've shown a dollar bill for scale so you can see how many pages you get.

It's just a loose-leaf binder. The holes don't actually *need* to be reinforced; but the paper, while of excellent quality, is not as heavy a stock as it might be, and with any usage, eventually some holes will rip out. I just keep a pack of the reinforcements inside the atlas, and when a hole looks like it's getting a little weak, I reinforce the whole page. But then again, my copy doesn't actually get a lot of hard usage.
