Where is everyone storing this monster size edition? Doesn't come close to fitting on any book shelf.
/Ira
For this atlas, a vertical position is not recommended. Mine is in flat position (best position I think) on the top off my shelf.
Yeah. I store it on a shelf, in the box to keep it clean and undamaged. I have a couple other atlases on top of the box (since the box itself isn't particularly attractive).

Well it's here already.
Shipped Sept 18 - and delivered October 22. Just under 5 weeks. I'm convinced all shipping speeds up as we approach the holidays.
As everyone has stated, the atlas is big - but after the buildup - it seemed 'smaller' than I expected. Here are some stats. The shipping weight was 6Kg. I measured 13.8lbs on my digital bathroom scale. Package measures 21-1/8" x 16" x 2-7/8". Now to get some of those hole reinforcements ...

First of all, Rick, Thanks for posting the message. Not sure how I missed this long thread (and also not knowing about this atlas). I was looking out to buy a star atlas and ended up buying Cambridge Star Atlas a month back. Of course, it is a good atlas. When I bought it I was thinking if only I had a detailed and large atlas for sky (like the Nat Geo atlas of the world) it would have been good. I think this will fulfill that desire
I ordered yesterday (22-Oct) and got a mail from Piotr that he had already shipped it(so still a few more are left). Now I am waiting for it to reach me .

I actually received mine within a month... just finished applying over 1,000 hole reinforcement rings last night (whew!).
Saptharishi, while the Great atlas is indeed great (especially at this price), I wouldn't recommend it for general field use. You need to find something in between your Cambridge atlas (which is basically a naked eye atlas) and this. I would recommend both Uranometria 2000 (which basically includes a 'lifetime' of objects) and Sky and Telescope's Pocket atlas (which is a great 'grab and go' atlas).

Hi Jeff,
Yes. I know that GAS is a reference atlas and not a field one. I will take a look at Uranometria 2000. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
For GAS, I have paid the extra $$$ to receive it by express shipment. Let me see how much time it takes from Poland to reach Bangalore .

Of course the common tie between Cambridge, Uranometria, and the S&T Portable atlas... is Wil Tirion... the greatest uranographer of our time.

Except that Wil Tirion didn't do the S&T Pocket Sky Atlas; Roger Sinnott did. They did, however, use the Milky Way isophotes as outlined in the first edition of Tirion's Sky Atlas 2000.
Credit where credit is due!

True, my mistake... although I'd guess there was just a little of Tirion that rubbed off from their past collaborations.

Still curious how many are left ..
Piotr needs to run out of atlases so folks would then be forced to start reducing Agena's stock of 10+ (and 10+ could mean 11 or 99).

I am intrigued by the thought of having it bound. What kind of a binding were you considering?

No, I haven't compared them. I don't use computer-based atlases, and with my dial-up line, I can't download it for printing. I'd be interested in knowing too, though. Someone here must have compared them.

I use the TriAtlas series extensively as I have all 3 series loaded up on my IPAD (the individual charts) for use while in the field. I have not had the time to really dig into GAOTS and compare them but will do so and create a new post so others can contribute.

Halfway done putting 1200 hole reinforcers in. Thickest part is still the fold by the zipper, and still only halfway up the rings.
Checking out each page and it is a beauty. Like the large print with common names. Don't like the small print for M object titles. I have difficulty reading small print at night with red light (and large pupils).

Their web site states "there are only a few dozens left and the edition will not be reissued". I ordered via PayPal ($99) on Oct 25 and received a note from Mr. Brych on Oct 26 with shipping info! This nostalgic treasure will be added to my Observatory library collection and referenced from the warm room table. Call me old-fashioned, but there is certainly something to be said for the look and feel of hard copy print for future generations of amateurs! (Yes, I do have and use technology also!)
