That ship image is Fantastic show's a great contrast in styles with your other images you have posted. I think i know what ship it is but dont wanna look daft so i wont say lol..

I have a Athlon 2000 with 1gig memory hope it's fast enough for 3d studio? oh and the graphics card is a gefore 4 128meg..

Looks like i will need more than luck but then again i do love to play with new software so you never know i maybe able to get an image of a ball this year

Your compuer will work fine..3D max works BEST with a dedicated workstation, so rendering times and various lighting/radiosity techniques may slow you down a tad...and once you get into 3D graphics...rendering speed will be much like aperture fever. The HMS Victory took 45 hours to render in Bryce on a pretty beefy home system much like yours. Bryce itself has a SLOW rendering engine, but when I upgraded to a dedicated work station for Max, I could render the same object in 12 mins. (this is largely due Max's roboust rendering engine, and partly due to a $3,000 graphic card and other enhanced features, 2 megs ram, arrayed Raptor hard drives, Pentium extreme chip, etc)

HMS Victory i knew it but like i said if i had got it wrong there would be no tea on the lawn for me tommorow .

Gary i have just been looking at the Image sizes of some of your pic's there a tad too high from the forum esp as many user's still have dial up, if you would be so kind as to change them to 60k that would be great.

Thanks

James

Your workstation sounds like a dream setup Gary i can only wish to have something like that one day , glad my computer can at least get me started with 3d Studio max if i get into it i will prob upgrade my graphics card etc. Slow redering systems is the bane of this hobby really(Digital Art) the need for super fast computers for some programs is quite evident from what i have been reading tonight but at the same time i note that system's are just getting faster by the day thus the cost's are coming down with each day this is a good thing for in the future if you catch my drift?..

Hello Gary,

That would be great thanks, there's always the option of uploading your images to the readers gallery and when you first upload your left with a smaller image before you click on it for full size maybe use that to display your images?...

Regards

Did you create the artwork in your avatar? Just curious - you have real talent!

Yes....the artwork in my avatar was done in Bryce and 3D StudioMax with some light postprocessing in Photoshop

I wondered about that!

My avatar was done in Photoshop Elements and is piece of a larger work. You can see a small version of it in my gallery and a larger one on my Webshots site.

Nice work in your avatar - I would have assumed Terragen for the terrain based upon my experiences.

Can Bryce do overhangs? Terragen cannot (at least the current version can't, barring some possible 3rd-party plugins.)

Bryce is a very powerful program for its modest price. It is amazing what some people can do with it. I refer you to an artist called RoHi at renderosity....his Bryce art is UNBELIEVABLE!....

I saw your avatar in full size in the gallery....amazing that it was done with just photoshop. Again, I have seen people do incredible art using just photoshop alone...I have no idea how they do it! I just use its basic functions for a little post processing touch up..
